I recently took the plunge and downgraded to a Ford Figo. My reasons for downgrading were due to the rising price of petrol, the fuel consumption of a 2.5l turbo, insurance costs, and the hope that soon I'll be able to catch the Gautrain...

The reason for this thread is to consolidate information, as I struggled to find out stuff about this car as its only sold in SA and India.

Prior to choosing the Ford, I was looking at the Suzuki Alto, and basically chose the Ford due to its 1.4l capacity vs. the 1000cc of the Suzuki.

I opted for the Ambiente as the Trend didn't offer me sufficient value with the extras it provided - i.e. colour coded mirrors, allow rims, foglights...

So... what I like about the car:
- comes standard with ABS, aircon, power steering.
- has a nifty boot opening button on the dash (handy when you're going through security checkpoints and they want to check the boot)
- spacious boot
- quiet engine, sometimes i think i've stalled at the traffic lights when its idling
- the central locking locks the doors when I pull off
- it has a rangemeter

Some irritations:
- the bonnet release is on the passenger side?
- no lights in the rear of the car (for passengers and boot - not the brake lights etc :))
- the head unit looks like a double-din, but is actually a single-din with a big face. To change this then means either cutting the dash to fit a double-din, or finding a plate to cover the whole if you fit a single-din...
- the speakers are 5x7s, which limit the choices unless you build spacers and adapters
- no electric windows

All in all... i think, for the price, the Ford Figo is good value. Its not a luxury car - but its got what I need, and it'll get me from A to B... my biggest frustration is the radio - I want to fit a decent head unit, and its posing quite a few challenges...

Sounds very similar to the Ikon. I love my 1.4l 2008 Ikon. I wish I had gotten the 1.6 though as the 1.4 engine struggles to accelerate on hills, otherwise it is a wonderful car and Ford makes excellent quality vehicles.

I bought the 1.4 tdci a few months back...I get 1000km on a 45lt tank, long distance, and about 700km - 800km town driving, with the current fuel price increases it seems like a wise decision. She cruises quite comfortably at 120 with spare power to overtake. Chassis is excellent on this vehicle, stiff and yet comfortable. As for the radio, well, the AF function pisses me off, on long trips, has a mind of its own! I've done 11000km in the three months I've had it, and all it well, so far. PW, if u find a solution for the nasty deck, please inform here.

Indeed... Its quite odd, some songs it seems to just distort when above like volume 10, others it can play no problems.... I've just sent an email to Fury Sandton to ask if they have an adapter trim plate, will provide feedback when they do.

Excellent choice - the Figo is a brilliant car if you take the price into account. The only thing I do not like about it is the lazy 1.4 engine with 62kw and 156 CO2 emissions.
If you compare it to the 1.4 in the new Corsa (74kw / 129 CO2) and the i120 (74kw / 138 CO2) then it does look like a pretty old design.

It does feel lazy... but only 300km on the clock so i can't push it yet... maybe some wildcat branches and a k&n ;)

That might increase the performance but it will no doubt increase the Co2 emissions as well. Still, for the money the Ford Figo is brilliant ;) At least its not a Plainly Overrated Lacking Originality Vivo or even worse, a Citi Grossly Overrated Lacking Flair

Thanx :)

Or a pathetic uninspiring Opel.
