Looking to get wife a Ford Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost (manual).
Would love to hear any opinions on the car if you have any experience with it or own one.

I've noticed the claimed fuel consumption figures are a big fat lie (as they usually are), but seriously skewed. Browsed a few owner's forums and people are reporting back 12l per 100km and worse ! (claimed is 7.8 urban, 6.2 combined)

So I'd love to hear how many kms you're getting on a tank.

Thanks

About fuel consumption:

There was a guy moaning about his Ecosports Ecoboost 1.0 engines fuel consumption, only getting 6.5l/100km on the open road instead of the claimed 4.8L/100Km. Then he revealed the fact that that consumption is when he cruises at 130 to 140km/h. My Figo also sucks fuel fast at those speeds, at 110km/h the needle takes forever to fall. So maybe the Ford engines are now designed to run at those speeds to meet the imposed efficiency standards easier or something.

Point is, when they moan about their consumption get more details like their speeds.

Can't comment on the Kuga, but my 2L ecoboost was supposed to have a combined rating of 7.2

Even with my most relaxed and conservative driving I struggle to keep it under 10. Take a look at how they calculate the EU consumption figures and you will see why they are so far from reality.

This is the type of feedback I have been seeing. Guys are saying they're driving like saints, and they can't squeeze more than 10km on a litre.

Most folks complained about the 1.5 auto, so I guess that will be a bit more thirsty.
On my test drive of the 1.5 I was doing a 10km loop and driving well behaved, had your fair mix of traffic, taxi's stopping in middle of road, red lights and hills, only got 12l/100 on the drive. Eek. You'd expect that from a naturally aspirated engine, not a modern day turbo charged one.

Still keen to hear more feedback if there are.

I have a Kuga 1.6 Ecoboost manual( with stop-start ), city driving anywhere from 8 - 9 l/100km depending on how heavy my shoe is. Highway is mostly just over 7 l/100km @ 120, but can rise to the 8 mark depending on traffic, hills, etc. If you do give it stick in town you will see 11 l/100km.

However if you do travel @ between 80 - 100 it does sip very little fuel and you will probably get closer to the claimed figures. I reckon for the size of vehicle with a petrol engine its pretty good. The Kia Sportage I had previously chomped a lot more.

Keep in mind that manufacturers figures are quoted at 100km/h, not 120.

I was thinking about changing cars next year from my i20 diesel to the fiesta 1.0 ecoboost.
Probably won't after reading these comments...

Hyundai claims 5.0 combined average for my car, I get 5.1 with minimum effort.

Definitely happy to hear a success story!
The 1.5 is supposedly more economic on highway due to the active grill shutter they added. Not sure how true that is, but good to know figures below 10/100 can be achieved if you behave.

That 1.0 Fiesta Ecoboost is an amazing car - surprising amount of power and really good consumption (3 guys in our company drive them), hence me thinking the economy would continue in the 1.5 brother. But it seems with good behaviour in the 1.5 Kuga it should dip below that 9l/100km. I guess it is a big body compared to a Fiesta, so can't expect miracles!

I remember a Top Gear (or Fifth Gear - can't remember now) episode where they put a Prius up against an M3: they both had to cruise around the track at 120km/h. The M3 beat the Prius on fuel economy...

I have the 1L ecoboost Fiesta and am averaging 5.3-5.5l/100km.

Lowest I ever got was 4.3 and that was all highway driving right after a fill up.

Great car and great consumprion. That said if your objective is fuel economy get the 1.6tdci.

We looked at the Kuga - the only thing I didn't like was the boot was too small for our dogs. Ended up with a Captiva instead.

The boot is quite small yes. Can't fit both our prams lying flat. Just needed that extra 5cm!
