Ford service - Chancers

So I've taken my Fiesta in for its 2nd annual service, and ford wants to replace my brakes for R2500, and one of my brake lights for R130.

Are they off their rockers? R2500!! I have only done 32000km with the car. They say I have 2000km left on the brakes.

How long do brakes usually last? Will it be cheaper if I get them done elsewhere?
My boyfriend said he would check this weekend to see if they really do need replacing.

And R130 for a bulb.... :wtf: Will have to go to Midas on the weekend. This will be the 4th light I am replacing on this car.

Do dealerships just try and take chances - especially with girls? Because even I can tell that they are overcharging. R130 for a bulb - cmon man
 
Go to Midas, buy brake pads and go to Supaquick or Hi-Q to install it. NEVER do that kind of maintenance at dealerships. ;)
 
It's probably a service standard to overcharge on breakpads. All cars/companies do it. It is always cheaper to buy the breakpads yourself and if you can install it yourself. So yea, i don't know the details as to how long it should last and how much those should cost, but i know quite a few people that refuse to do it during a service due to blatant rip off on break pads. It's also a thing people commonly replace during service, so i guess somewhere someone decided in the motor industry THAT is where they will nail you.

I bet if I had a maintenance plan the brakes would be just fine. But since its a service plan, they will try to squeeze you for every last cent.

Will having new pads fitted at HiQ affect my warranty?
 
This seems to be a common thing with ford dealerships.
My old fiesta, and my friends and g/f's fiestas had the same thing.
Every single service, they used to tell us we needed new disks and pads..

I'm beginning to think so too. They told my bf the same thing with his Focus.

i went through a set of brake pads ( much bigger than your fiestas ) in 20 000k's where nearly metal on metal, though i did drive those 20 000 very hard. if your light on your brakes they can last about 60 000km. But it sounds like they could need to be replaced. but ya the actual pads will cost you about R400 i rate, if that.
 
they also told me so, I went to midas and got then remove the tyre and its still ok. 20 000km later.
every one does so.
 
My mom bought a second hand Fiesta, the Ford dealer told us it had Bantam brakes and would cost R3000 to replace.
The independant dealers told us it has brand new Fiesta brakes.
 
wow - you can get generics for like 800rand...

K, now I'm sure they were trying to scam me out of my money, at least for the light bulb... Checked my brake lights this weekend, and they seem perfectly functional to me... :mad:
