Hi all

Travelling to Japan soon and since it is quite the cash based country, I need to get some cash.

As I understand the airport is the worst place to get this, saw FNB forex but I am 30km away from the nearest branch.

What would be the best solution and rate?

Oh you lucky person. Japan is going to be epic. Enjoy the experience.

Im in a similar boat as you, heading to another country in SEA and will need some currency. Im also going to have to travel the 30km to a bank to get this resolved I think. At least in my town my options appear to be a bank or the airport.

If I need cash like this which I did in countries like Portugal and Serbia just use local ATMs,

Thanks took a year of saving and me and my friend booked our first trip. Hope you enjoy SEA, really great area with many cool countries. If thailand is on the list watch out for some ATMs there, some have been found with card skimmers.

FNBs rates are not bad from what I see. Avoid the airports rates are not great and charge more if you pay with card.

That was the plan for most of the cash just wanted a good option for some emergency cash a Few thousand rand before I arrive.

Also with my two banks FNB and Capitec, the rates for ATM withdrawals do add up., although Capitec seems cheap
