Foreign operators expected to bid for Telkom

Yeah, very interesting indeed. Will have to wait and see what develops in the next few months

Remember the last time it was foreign involved. Thintana (not sure on the spelling) was the cause of most of our woes. They taught Telkom how to be corporate pedophiles.

Brierley said he expected to buy some backbone capacity from the new fixed-line operator, Neotel, last year, but Neotel could not supply the service.

Way to go Neotel. So you are also making the big corporates wait for your services...

Er, so foreign ownership is O.K. if they sell DoC a +3 anti-tsunami suit of armour?

It is not OK. The DOC will stipulate that the foreign ownership must be 51% South African owned.

but who in their right mind would want to buy telkom?!

Traditional voice calls have become less profitable because Telkom squandered all their opportunities. How is it a fixed line operator, the only fixed line operator, in the country has less subscribers than the mobile operators of this country when the cost of mobile calls is so exhorbitantly high? Telkom priced themselves beyond the reach of most south Africans. In fact, I think Telkom is purposefully neglecting the consumer market to focus on the areas where most of their money comes from, their business users.

As for Telkom being owned by a foreign company, if things weren't already so bad, I'd protest. But at this point just about anything would be better.

you should have a look at how much money telkom makes

who in their right mind would not buy telkom if they had the money 2

telkom is a cash cow and could be an even bigger cash cow if it was managed better
