Forget the 8Mbps ADSL lines! When will we get symmetrical DSL services? The whole upload thing is pathetic! Especially when you’re using a service such as IMAP, a higher upload speed would be nice.:(

They are already available if you are willing to pay for it. Speak to their wholesale sales division.

How does one get to speak to their wholesale division?

I too would be interested in SDSL...

I wouldn't say no to real dsl... Adsl is also inconvenient to us members of private torrent trackers:(

SHDSL

@moggie

NOT indicated as offered as per your site link
Wholesale Products Offered

but

mentioned in the glossary
Telkom Glossary

Some businesses, however, may require matching upstream rates for uploading large files.
SDSL, or Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line is an option. "Symmetric" indicates that both datastreams are operating at the same speed of 1.5 to 7 Mbps,
Depending on the grade purchased.
SDSL service requires a dedicated telephone line because, unlike ADSL, telephone and fax services cannot share a line with SDSL service.

HERE is the answer everyone has been looking for

Get SHDSL and NO VOICE line charges.

moggie -- PLEASE explain further .................

You won't see the product listed and you definitely won't get anywhere if you use the normal channels (telkom direct shop, 1021x, etc.). That's why you must contact the wholesale guys on any of those numbers listed. These are the wise guys who can tailor solutions to requirements. At a price, of course!

OK -- but I am sure I am not the only one wanting to know.

How about someone from Telkom Wholesale spilling the beans here for us

YOU have a product -- NOW -- MARKET it.

[Edit]

Well this must be Telkoms best kept secret :erm:

Scratched around on the Telkom site without ANY luck

Not even mentioned here Telkom ALL products

SO Telkom WHERE are you hiding info about THIS product and WHY

Thanks. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they a) cater to residential customers b) costs involved and c) try to get some clarity on the ISP issue.

I have a suspicion that it will be out of my price range if you have to have a "wholesale" ISP though:(

DIGINET

Diginet or leased line services is a dedicated point-to-point connection that provide the user with an always on service.
Diginet is based on carrier class Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line technology that provides guaranteed bandwidths between any predefined destinations.
The customer determines the transmission speed "throughput"

The reason you will not find anything on SHDSL is probably because it is the same as DIGINET. ( as implemented by Telkom )

Clever ( but VERY misleading) Telkom product differentiation.:wtf:

PLEASE Telkom dudes tell me I am WRONG.

You are going to be paying the SAME rate for SHDSL as DIGINET. ie a couple thousand.:erm:

I have a suspicion though that this technology SAVES Telkom thousands -- which are NOT passed on to the customer.

ICASA -- PLEASE -- SOME CLARITY

Confusion rains

More than you are willing to pay. SDHL is nothing like ADSL which is designend for the internetz. You essentially want a symetrical leased line for cheap.

I am sure you are going to pay a lot for THAT one

Symetrical HIGH speed Digital Subscriber loop (line)

SO "experts" please explain what the difference is.

MW

Diginet is a point to point leased line circuit going across 2 copper wire pairs (4 wires altogether), from your premises to any other premises including an ISP's premises. What you use that circuit for, and what protocols you run across it, is up to you and the person on the other end of that circuit, Telkom doesn't care, they just provide you with the circuit at a certain speed.

I would guess that their SDSL service runs across your normal standard 1 pair copper wire phone line and terminates at the DSLAM in your local exchange pretty much just like a standard ADSL circuit, and then into Telkom's ADSL cloud. Obviously you are going to have to pay a premium for the circuit being synchronous, but other than that I can't see how it's going to differ from a normal ADSL circuit.

Hhhmmm

I wonder if one gets two wire diginet ??
Although I have been told that one does not speak of Diginet anymore but MATIS ???

I would tend to agree and this is the basis of my query.
But I do not think that this is the way that Telkom implement it.

How DO they

I have NO idea seeing as information about this product is so scarce. ( I kinda wonder WHY )

Telkom are trying to phase out Diginet and prefer MARTIS as the new generation solution. But they have encountered extreme resistance from Diginet customers who are very happy with the QoS and are not prepared to pay for the more expensive MARTIS solution.
