Forget about smoking electronic cigarettes on flights

It can still be annoying to see and smell gasses coming from another person, weather it's vapor from their mouths or methane from another orifice it is just rude to subject others to it against their will ...

I never actually cared about the harmful effects of real smoke as much as the sight and smell of it, got my revenge from time to time lighting up a fat cigar in the local pub, suddenly all the chain smokers complain :D
So ban something because you find it annoying?... So when can I expect the ban on motorcyclists to be processed?

Adverts really annoy me too now that I think about it. Ban 'em.

Subjecting vegans to the sale and slaughter of animals is also unacceptable. Ban the entire livestock trade.

Seriously, when did it become acceptable to ban something completely harmless simply because someone else doesn't like it?

What happens when they come after something you like because some other muppet thinks it is annoying? You going to be supportive of it or you going to pull a 180 and embrace hypocrisy? A free society means tolerating things you don't like as long as they don't infringe upon your rights.

I have had it with these mother****ing smokes on this mother****ing plane

Meh - just use the bathroom if you want to vape.

i smoked and now vape and to be mindfull to others will not have some sort of substance fill up a sealed of space . I guess some crappy china ecig cant do much but an ecig stays an ecig hencd the rule must be applied to all

But but the vape smell !

Smell?

There are plenty of other more pungent smells you can generate in the bathroom if you need some camouflage. ;)

So others don't have to smell it.

It tickles the back of my throat and makes me cough more than cig smoke, so i'm happy to not have it around.
I demand a ban on diesel. I shouldn't have to smell it. Heck the emissions are even actually harmful. I don't like it, that is a good enough reason to ban something right?

What happens if I don't like the deodorant or cologne that you use?

Can we ban that too then?

And the smell of foods from restaurants?

Banning it because you don't like what it smells like is a silly argument.

It is a bit of a gray area, which you're also highlighting, a couple of hundred people boxed into a narrow space for hours on end without fresh air will likely care a whole lot more about being forced to breathe someone else's vapor than someone standing in the street.

i.e. the rules on an airplane will be different than the rules somewhere else

They already have banned many things I enjoy, find me a beach where I can legally enjoy a peaceful glass of wine while watching a sunset for example, it's been banned even though my wine drinking is completely harmless to others. Just the way it goes these days.

Airlines would be more concerned with fire risks, but if e-cigarettes are so safe there's an opportunity for some airline to create a smoking section and attract some customers.

Oh snap!

“This final rule is important because it protects airline passengers from unwanted exposure to electronic cigarette aerosol that occurs when electronic cigarettes are used on board airplanes,” said Foxx.

I don't buy that.

By that same logic they should ban farting on airplanes.

Unless there is a credible danger to passengers or the integrity of the plane, then they have no reason to ban them.

If they can prove that people are using e-cig fluids that are causing harmful vapour (e.g. fluids that's contain carcinogens), then I'd be on board with it. I'd actually be surprised if there were not people doing that, but that's not the reason that they are giving.

I disagree. If it isn't harmful then it isn't harmful. I want less regulation, not more.

So I take it you're in support of those bans then right? (not that the alcohol ban is directly comparable BTW as the country does have an actual alcohol problem that results in real infringement of rights, note I still don't agree with it, it just has more merit as it actually can be said to do some damage)

There is a difference between saying this is the way things go and actually supporting something.

LOL this isn't about fire risks. Tons of the stuff you're allowed to bring onto a plane poses a far greater fire risk than these tiny e-cigs.

Are you allowed to open a can of diesel on a plane?
Nope. It could cause actual damage to the interior of the plane. There is a rational ban there to prevent damage to property. For the same reason I can deny someone access to my business because I have reason to believe he/she means to cause damage.

In contrast this vapour is harmless as far as I'm aware.

We're talking about banning something because people don't like it. There is a difference.

Good lord I'd be behind that ban 100%! Have you ever sat next to a flatulent passenger on a long haul flight? It is very traumatic and tantamount to physical torture!

It's not so bad - eventually you become one with the gas.

:p

I also generally want less regulation, and I'm not even supporting this particular regulation, I'm not at all surprised though, given the enclosed space, the security paranoia when it comes to air travel and the safe spaces needed to keep all the special snowflakes of the world alive. Are you genuinely surprised or shocked? Or just outraged?

Nope, nor am I necessarily in support of the vape-on-a-plane ban; personally I don't go around getting blind drunk in public and causing a mess or attacking people, nor do I pour some of my wine down their throats, yet banned it is because of some other idiots who have no control. Still, I'm not surprised it is banned, just disappointed.
