While many consumers are fretting over which high-definition TV to buy, a new, low-power screen technology is already on the horizon. TVs that use “organic light-emitting diodes” could quickly consign today’s LCD and plasma technologies to history.

Are OLED TV better than LCD? Yes. Are they Cheaper? No. A 32" Samsung (don't know the model) cost about 1500 € a LCD from Samsung cost about 400 €. I'll stick with the LCD until the OLED ones are at the same price.

The norm for when new tech comes out is it pushes the older technologies prices down as more people adopt it. So I would expect to see cheaper LCDs in the future, most likely see OLED in laptops and smartphones first with the saving in power consumption.

Oh yeah my dad has a led display in his Dell. only cost about 25 € more so he wantet it and it is amazing. And yes as you say it will be coming (fast) I think in about ~2 years we will only see LED displays.

they've been talking about the OLED revolution for a long time now. Maybe one day it'll come down to the point where it's standard but not just yet. What's really exciting is how this stuff performs in handheld devices. AMOLED screens are starting to hit the market and they make a big difference to image quality - the i8910 in particular is incredibly vibrant.

Yes, OLED doesn't need backlighting (CFL/LED) at all - so there is a difference between an OLED screen and LET lit LCD!

Yeah, they will go down in price, for the moment OLED doesn't come in HIGH DEF for consumers. Even portable device OLED displays are tiny in terms of resolution - 320by240 type being typical - you won't find an 854 by 480 or 800 by 480 OLED on a phone yet.
