Ok, so the formula 1 season is starting this week/end. DSTV Premium is R499 and the "must have" PVR functionality is R69(?).
I'm on dstv compact for budget reasons, what are my choices for getting to watch formula1 (in my own home)(legally) ?

I asked if I can be put on Premium only for the weekends, I was flatly refused.
Do I only have the "blackmail" option or is there another choice?

Not many options but to pay the bucks for Premium during the season.

Or find somewhere to stream from, torrents are also available pretty soon after practice sessions/quallies, and the race.

Your "blackmail" option sounds dodge...

You're going to have to fork out. They deliberately leave out SS2 for a reason.

Your alternative is to download, which can be cost effective if you get your packages right. But to make it cost effective, it'll only really work if you download lots of other stuff as well.

Get a Playstation with all the bells and seats and whistles...More fun than watching follow the leader round and round and round and round every Sunday for months and paying for it.

Come on dude there must be something in your life you can do without? One less party night, eat egg bread for a week? Come on now this f1 dammit!!!!!! :D

and schum is back. common, sacrifice s'thing.
oh ive got an idea: start a lift club to work

That's why it's called premium. Compact subscribers need to realise the package was aimed at the emerging middle class whose sport of interest is (local) football. If they start adding more sport most of us will downgrade.

...and another thing

I see the F1 is not going to be on Supersport HD. Bummer.

Go to the pub.. Spend your R529 on dop.. :)

Yea i want you to find me a pub that will broadcast the f1 at 5 o clock in the morning and during rugby or soccer games :D. Then i want to ask yourself should i be spending 529 on alcohol for 2 races when i could have dstv for an entire month for that money? Logically that makes no sense to me.

That is what always annoys me about people who moan about dstv's prices but can happily take down one month dstv subscription in alcohol in one night or a weekend :D.

F1 is not broadcast in hd anywhere in the world.

I was under the impression you could get connected for just the weekend but at a slightly higher price? We recently requested that our DSTV be suspended as we are in the process of moving. Plans to watch the rugby fell through so I called to ask to be reconnected temporarily. The lady asked whether I would like her to set an automatic disconnection on the Sunday. I chose not to.

Maybe it is because I was on premium to start with?
