Fortune Telling

99.99% of them are duplicates of Patrick Jane.

The other 0.01%... well... there's a lot of **** that happens that is practically unexplainable. Who knows what happens in these rare circumstances or if any of these circumstances actually exist.

I had an experience with an astrologer that changed my view on all this stuff. I used to play LAN games at this iCafe and one of the guys on my CS clan was very into astrology. One day he was doing some stuff on this astrology software in the icafe and a lady came in to use the net. She saw him doing some chart and said that she was an astrologer. I was skeptical but interested and she ended up doing my chart. I was blown away by what she could see. She told me I had a near fatal accident when I was a very young child - I almost died in a car accident when I was 5 and spent 6 weeks in hospital. She told me I have never had much relationship with my father - spot on, he lived 800kms away since I was 2. She said some other personal stuff I'm not gonna post here that was true and it was freakily accurate and not stuff you can just guess. The owner of the icafe came along and was interested so she did his chart as well. He was so freaked out and actually very emotional because she brought up same painful family stuff that he had struggled with which he spoke about afterwards. It was awkward but pretty amazing.

I agree that way more than 90% of these people are fakes but after that day my view on a lot of those 'clairvoyent' things changed. Horoscopes and all that crap in magazines is a load of drivel but it goes much deeper than that.

To paraphrase a popular story... Cry wolf enough times and the wolf will come...

Scientific Method, Cold Reading, repeatable testing are some of the topics you believers in this nonsense should have a good read over.

Agreed, I don't believe a word they (Fortune tellers/Tarot card readers) say

If all these so called psychic mediums, fortune tellers and whatnot could /really/ do what they claim, they wouldn't be earning petty money on the street, or bigish money on TV (like John Edwards) .. they'd be contracting for the military, government agencies and bigger tasks like that.

It's exactly the same as with Ghosts, UFO's, etc ....... some people believe and the ones that don't, get all het up at the believers ;)

mmmm i think you get people that but only like looking into the past can but most is just bs for money. People that work with the FBI and things like that.

Problem is that according to the psychics, these visions come and go and it is not like pressing a button and voila! It also has to do with the medium/psychic's own state of mind.

:D

Load of rubbish, surely they could make millions getting the lotto numbers?

They would not be on the street but locked away in a government facility or working with governments not telling joe blog that in his near future ......

Imagine how much you make at the races, which horse dammit!!!!! bet you they would fail so badly unless they know the 1/5 favourites before hand :p

Interesting, however, did she say "you had a near fatal car accident as a young child", or did she just say "accident". I would say most children have near fatal accidents. And most people have a car accident in a 20 year period. So this is very vague. Do you have any visual scars from the accident?

Also, most guys (i assume you are a guy) have a strained relationship with their fathers. I'd be impressed if she said "you never had much relationship with your father because he lives far away". Not "you don't have much of a relationship with your father." Again, too vague and general.

I can't comment on the personal stuff you don't want to mention, but I bet there were some claims about you that didn't make sense or stick and she had to keep talking and twisting till they made sense.

I will never believe in fortune tellers unless they can consitently demonstrate specific predictions in the future. And they can never get a big claim wrong.

They can't predict what the Lotto numbers are going to be. It doesn't quite work like that i've heard.

So how does it work then? They need to be paid upfront and not after the balls have come rolling out the machine?

Of course it doesn't work like that. It only works for vague, non-specific things that open totally open to interpretation.

As far as i know and correct me if i'm wrong i thought they could only pick up on situations/emotions of the person asking for a reading. Even then the images they see don't always make sense as it comes to them in pieces so it's a case of putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

Serqet eish reading people's emotions? How are they fortune tellers then? Do the emotions tell them the future or what?

I mean is fortune telling is about the future? Do people go and pay to hear about there past in a vague manner?

Why do they charge upfront? Money first BS second then the person feels guilty in regards to the kuk you have just spewed :p,

God alone knows!

Here is what i found on the net:

Common methods used for fortune telling in Europe and the Americas include astromancy, horary astrology, pendulum reading, spirit board reading, tasseography (reading tea leaves in a cup), cartomancy (fortune telling with cards), tarot reading, crystallomancy (reading of a crystal sphere), and cheiromancy (palmistry, reading of the palms). The latter three have traditional associations in the popular mind with the Roma and Sinti people (often called "gypsie")

Another form of fortune-telling, sometimes called "reading" or "spiritual consultation" does not rely on the use of specific devices or methods, but consists of the practitioner transmitting to the client advice and predictions which are said to have come from spirits or in visions. This form of fortune-telling is particularly popular in the African-American community.

Typical topics that Western fortune-tellers make predictions on include future romantic, financial, and childbearing prospects. They may also be called upon to aid in decision-making regarding job opportunities, the outcome of illnesses, and plans for marriage or divorce.

In addition to divining the future, many fortune-tellers will also give "character readings." These are short analyses of the character of a person and do not necessarily involve specific predictions about future events. Methods used in character analysis readings include numerology, graphology, palmistry (if the subject is present), and astrology. The subject of a character reading may be the client, who seeks self-knowledge, but it is quite common for the fortune-teller to perform a character reading on the client's prospective mate. In the latter case, when a third party is being assessed for marital compatibility with the client, an element of fore-telling does occur, as the practitioner explores the future of the relationship based on the characters of the two parties.

Indeed, I had a near fatal accident or two as a kid, I think nearly everyone can relate to having some near fatal or serious accident. It's quite a common thing.
