I think I have found this months billing problem.

Today scrutinized my last 2 months bills and saw this;

There are skipped days on the bill (I use internet every day) Then saw that on these skipped days the bundle totalliser never updated on the *162*pin#.

On the last day of your bundle you have say 100MB's left. You don't actually as the skipped days have NOT been deducted so you use up your 100MB's lest you loose it thereby going 100 over PLUS all the skipped days MB's. Making a cool over bundle of around 300MB's depending on your use.

This was billed this month backdated from March as "Unbilled amount" Thus the large outstanding amount.

If my balance shows I have 50MB's left, I will use it up on the last day and not expect to go severely over bundle. I expect their totalliser to be correct at all times and use it accordingly.

I checkd my statement too...some dates are not there, but 4me for the whole month the charges were taken off my airtime instead of the bundle so MTN owes me...& 808 says billing queries will take 20days to resolve, and this prblm is widespread...

I have all the proof in what I am saying. Printed and saved everything daily.
You are all being ripped off by MTN with their billing. They DO NOT update the bundles every day. The days that are not updated are your "Unbilled". Not reflected on your balance and charged OOB.
I have been told to be discrete about this but cannot do so as there are many of you in the same boat

In case you missed it on another thread, it seems that MTN's data counter went boobs-up for the month of April; the screenshots I saved ('cos you just KNOW you're in for a billing battle!) bear absolutely no relation to the detailed invoice I later received -- along with a demand for payment for several hundred rands' worth of OOB data not shown on their counter at the time!

Unhappiness seems so widespread with this billing muddle now that I would advise anyone hit by the problem to persevere and fight the good fight, not just shrug it off. My own objection has been in with my MTN reseller MWeb now for more than a week, having been promised a response 'within a few days'. Yeah, right....

Can you PM me. I need all the info I can get before I take action. I have plenty of time on my hands so I really want to take this further. If you still have those screenshots , can you send them to me.

Thank you.

Tks Marco. But let me see how far I get first with MWeb directly. If no satisfaction I'll get back to you. My main concern other than the total inaccuracy of their MTN data counter in April, is that their system apparently allowed me to continue 'way past my signed R10 excess-data cap for any number of subsequent sessions, to the tune of (they say) many hundreds of rands!

My balance has been 69.9MB's for 4 days now. I know that I have used it all up so am now on my prepaid SIM.

Is this their way to make me go overbundle on purpose for their benefit? Is this legal?

Imagine renting a car for a week and the first 1000 km is free. You do 950 km and they say the odometer is faulty so they tracked you by satellite and you did 1500 km. Are you liable to pay for the 500 km? I think not.

Prepaid updates in real time. Why does contract not? Makes my think.

In terms of my own overbilling problem mentioned earlier in this thread, MWeb 9reselling MTN) has now conceded there was a major data-counting problem in April and have said they will refund my excess data charge.

Problem solved? Perhaps. But perhaps not -- once again this month the online data counter bears very little relation to my own careful monitoring using tried-and-trusted counters like NetMeter. To be continued?

Moral: no more contracts. EVER again!

Mine updated today after 5 days BUT only by 100kb when I used up about 60MB's.
Still shows I have 64MB's left.

Your SP might delete your unbilled, but will MTNSP?

Moral: no more contracts. EVER again!

Prepaid also has problems. See my new thread above.

At least with prepaid you can move to someone that gives service. Contracts keep you locked in to bad service. I will think twice about contracts in the future, that is for sure.

I have not used my contract SIM since Saterday. It updated today from 65MB to 61MB. I know there is 0MB left. Now I will get a rollover on the 21'st and still get charged overbundle for this month.

Thanks for those links Marco. Interesting reading. I hope the awareness increases. The consumer cannot tolerate being shafted by MTN like this any longer. A bug in billing system hah. It is a BUG

After they sent me two [different] invoices for June AND again not billing my credit card, i receive the following SMS:

"Valued Customer, please discard the billing data received for June '09. Updated data will be sent soon. Regards MTNSP"

WTF? Geez how messed up can things get?!! I actually went and manually paid the 1st invoice i received....hell i don't even freaking know what i must pay anymore...

Quite a bit outdated though, not sure if the current spree of billing muckups is related or ongoing since 2007?

Sorry, I never looked at the dates. I retract this.
