Four Eskom generators, that had stopped working at three power stations, were functional again on Wednesday morning, an official said.

Apparently 2 of them tripped because they were struck by lightning.

I might be wrong here but I think when Eskom says a generator "tripped" they actually mean that there is a problem in the power station's switchyard (e.g. something getting hit by lightning) and breakers opened which forced a shutdown \ disconnection of the generator - similar to what you and I would call it when the power trips at home.

Actual problems with the boilers, turbines & generators would probably take much longer to fix than was the case here.

I might be wrong here but I think when Eskom says a generator "tripped" they actually mean that there is a problem in the power station's switchyard (e.g. something getting hit by lightning) and breakers opened which forced a shutdown \ disconnection of the generator - similar to what you and I would call it when the power trips at home.

Actual problems with the boilers, turbines & generators would probably take much longer to fix than was the case here.

I know, I just found it highly amusing that according to their own spokesperson.. some of these generators tripped due to lightning strikes.

I reckon the spokesperson is chilling in a deckchair in Mauritius and all four generators are still not functional.

I think all of us is going to be more vigilant now on any news re Eskom than ever before. It is good to hear they could resolve the issues with the four generators. Long term solutions I hope.
