Fourth wave COVID-19 warning for SA

Another clickbait headline. Read the article twice to get some understanding of the 4th wave. Nothing, nada.

Communists rubbing their grubby stealing paws with glee.

As some may know, i generally was very worried about COVID-19, and rightfully so - when i got it was sucky of note and i really don't wanna get it again.

That said, i really think we need to get away from planning how to handle the pandemic and focus on how to live with it. Vaccines are helping, they're not (and were never going to be) the miracle cure but they are doing something.

This "wave" thing in my opinion serves no purpose anymore. Maybe it did when we had a lot of unknowns, and fear etc. But we know this virus, Doctors are fare more comfortable treating it. Yes, it has got a relatively higher mortality rate than flu but I expect that to be on the downward trend globally.

We need to move out of "fear the next wave!" and into an era of "be careful, wear a mask if you want its your choice, get vaccinated (unfortunately also your choice), and carry on with your life."

Agreed. We need to turn the anxiety knobs down and get back to normal life. We need to shift thought process and effort now in getting back to normal life again.

Yup, took some time but it seems people are now starting to realize this virus isn't going anywhere.

Vaccine take up is too slow, need to strike fear into the people again.
There shouldn’t be a 4th wave theoretically, also doubt voter turn out will be high.
Sometimes this okie doesn’t really understand societal behaviour and just looks at the stats and science.

Cumulative deaths to date is still very much an upward trend worldwide.

Unfortunately the measures put in place are there because people have the inability to be careful.

I agree with your sentiments. I see general anxiety driven lunacy at the moment also needing consideration.

The problem is that it is becoming increasingly harder to distinguish between the genuine efforts to curb the damage of the pandemic and the power trip of governments including the associated opportunistic corruption..

Throw in some personal encounters with the virus and you have a very malable population willing to simply comply for the sake of compliance..

We need a "project plan", with a best guess estimate of returning to some sort of stability and not being threatened with the metaphorical covid timebomb over the last 2 years and counting, but anti-vaxx initiatives and blatant disregard to the basic measures we can take are hampering all efforts even further.

So yes, we have to have a 4th wave, it is recommended..

I'd add to that: the government needs to present an actual plan with quantitative measures/benchmarks (so the ANC can't get out of it) which will ultimately lead to the SoD being rescinded, capacity limits & masks abolished.

hey maybe the medical facilities will prepare for the next wave this time, like they said they would for the first one.

lol

Well deaths don't go down, surprising that. I mean once someone is dead, they aren't getting better.

That's one of the reasons nobody should focus on cumulative data over long periods of time. Rather look at periodic numbers (weekly, monthly or yearly), or rates of mortality, and compare to previous seasons (or waves, or countries).
