FPS games with controller

Hi,

I'm a long time PC gamer, meaning mouse & keyboard for games. Now I have an XBox Series S & was just wondering, how difficult / hard is it to adapt playing shooter games like Borderlands, Farcry etc with a controller?

Is it vrek difficult?

I wanna buy those games & play them, but FPS games with a controller.... Not sure if it's a massive adjustment.

Please advise.
 
Just play dead space and gears then your training will be completed. That said, it is not that hard but you might find that you have less finesse shooting however you do have more maneuverability. Even that can be debatable looking a things like ghost runner where I prefer kb/m
 
I love playing FPS games and use a PC for that as I have been playing keyboard and mouse games since the 90s. I own an xbox360 and struggle to play those games on it, I now only use my xbox with steering wheel for racing games.
I wish xBox would allow all FPS games to work with keyboard and mouse.
If they did I too would invest in a xBox Series S instead of using a PC
 
FPS game with a controller? No man wtf. Controllers on a PC should only be used with games like GTA and racing games.

You have a PC, why switch to console? Or is it becoming too outdated?

Because not having to sit upright and streaming to tv playing from the coach. Why I have a controller and did the whole streaming setup, but, as I've said with ghostrunner... I'd rather do the kb/m

I could never get use to playing FPS games with the controller, I get a bit frustrated when I can't do sudden movements for example flicking the mouse to shoot an enemy behind you, with a controller for me there's this delay and it feels slow like few cm per sec while turning around, with a mouse it can be done almost instantly.
 
Exactly! With a controller aiming is vrek hard. I have read that people say it is possible to learn / adapt playing with it. All you need is practice.

I don't have a PC anymore. Just a laptop which I mostly use for porn viewing. Not gaming.

I think I'll give playing a FPS game with a controller. I tried Battlefront II or something, and it was vrek annoying trying to get the aim on the target.
 
Keep the replies coming. There has to be at least one bra who went from PC to controller and mastered it.
 
I have my Series S since December and I just gave up playing FPS games on it. I've been a PC gamer my whole life.

I find it difficult to maneuver my character using both analog sticks. Aiming is impossible!
 
It is a difficult switch but it can be done.
Even in hyper competitive games like Apex you have controller players in the big leagues keeping up with the best on PC. It will take a while though.

I have also thought about switching as most of my IRL friends have consoles and not PC's. It's hardly surprising when a good gaming PC is R50k and an Xbox 1/5 of that.
 
Switching isn't easy, but it can be done. Lifelong PC gamer that switched to console around 3 years ago. It took me a good month or so to be what I would consider 'comfortable' with a controller and another month before I would consider myself slightly competent. I'd still get my arse handed to me in competitive shooters, though.

I find that FPS games are tricky on console with controllers, but TPS games are a little easier for whatever reason. I think it comes down to movement (in FPS holding the stick back makes you reverse, in a TPS it makes the character and camera turn around instead)

I agree. I find TPS (gears, mass effect, outriders) much easier than FPS on console.
however, for all those TPS’s listed above, the controls are the same, for me at least. Left thumb stick is “strafe” while right is aim/camera.

Ah yes, I forgot about those. Some TPS views are 'tight' over the shoulder views like Gears, GoW, etc. and others are floating a bit higher up and generally allow 180 degree turns - think Horizon, Days Gone, Assassin's Creed games

No you still have to aim and stuff in gta so keyboard and mouse.

Controllers on pc are for fighting games like Street Fighter and platformers only :)

Not if you enable aim assist.

The only time I will use aim assist is in GTAO where they pair you with other people that are using aim assist.
 
I struggled initially but now it's completely natural for me to play an FPS with a controller.

The absolute best games to get used to it are the Halo games.
 
I would say stick to it, but dont think you are going to be doing well in a competitive shooter after a week.

not a chance in hell I would want to learn controller in a multi-player FPS, because you want to have fun, and if you are getting wrecked constantly, you are just going to give up.

find a nice 15-20+ hour long single player FPS and play that. Our brains are clever things, and although you start out sucking hard, you eventually will reach a level of comfort, because it is all just dexterity at the end of the day.

It just means that when you do get it right, the reward is better. Any noob can git gud on kb + mouse.

For single player modes the stock controller is fine. You'll get used to it.

For multiplayer it's best to get something like an Elite controller. There's stuff that you can do that will bring you closer to kb + mouse, because you ideally don't want to take your thumbs off the sticks. I mentioned it on the Xbox thread, but I'm pretty much on par now with PC players on crossplay games because of it...
