Freak Lightning at Durban Lnite - Damage

The insurance guys came today and collected all the blown up / dead equipment...

Looks like they are going to pay :D
 
We were in Hillcrest during the storm, so I didn't get to see it where we live in Musgrave, I hear it was The Apocalypse.

It hailed in Hillcrest though, lovely white jewels of Thor.. with our car outside unprotected.. fortunately not a scratch!

I love big-ass storms.
 
Crickey thats bad..... we are between Stanger and greytown and I could see towards Durbs that someone was getting the C*&P hammered out of them .... of course out here 2 drops of rain and we disconnect and unplug everything .....

After losing a Modem with a 7.30am thunderstorm Im careful.
 
Well we weren't expecting a storm here, were out at Hillcrest and had our ADSL router, hub, 4 pcs, plasma telly all plugged in..

I love surge protection, it's that peace of mind that outways the cost. Even out antenna on the ceiling is protected, so I feel a LOT safer now.

Just remember that if lightning strikes your electric system or antenna directly (as in ziglet's case), then no amount of surge protection is going to help.

That lightning bolt just jumped a couple of hundred meters through clear air. The circuitry in a surge protector is there to protect against surges, not massive spikes.
