I recently had fibre installed by tesuco who owns fredds fibre. I was suprised to learn that I cannot provide my own data on their infrastructure and forced to use their data packages ? That does not sound very fair in terms of competitiveness? Is there not any legislation that protects consumer against lock in ?
My installation terminates with omt and they provided a router that does support pppoe however only protocol that works is IPoE which does not allow for my own isp details.

I agree it's not very competitive and I see they are extremely overpriced. However Fibre is a luxury. You or the body corporate or someone higher up chose them as a SP without doing proper research.

In this case the blame is the people that chose the SP. Greencom and Cybersmart does the same and rolling out big time without any issues. I'm not too clued up about the legality, but if you chose me as a SP you agreed to my terms and conditions or you can go take a hike and use Telkom. That's the fibre providers mentality in most cases.

Hi Guys, please note we offer packages on this same network:

Thanks for your reply. Yes Fredd was "chosen" since the body corporate said they were the only interested party. I should have been more proactive in the process I guess. If you want to choose another fiber provider would they have to lay their own fiber or how does that work ? Seems very inefficient. I know in Sweden they have infrastructure in place so fiber can easily be placed in the ground without having to redig up the surface again.

I never received a reply from cisp support. After I signed up for your uncapped 100 mbit package I didn't receive a response either? That does not bode well for future interactions with your company. Consider my signup cancelled.

Received a response now. Fredd is not open access and therefore I can't choose another isp.

My understanding is that Fredd is the ISP arm of TTConnect/Tesuco. Tesuco are responsible for building the last mile open access fibre network, and therefore Fredd as a client of Tesuco operating on their network, would not theoretically be open access, as it is the ISP layer and not the network provider layer. In our discussions and negotiations with TTConnect/Tesuco, Fredd operates at arm's length as an independent subsidiary ISP and the TTConnect last mile network is open access, allowing an end-user to choose between an ISP like Fredd, or Crystal Web, or CISP, or any other ISP with agreements in place and the appropriate technology to provision services over this last mile network. TTConnect does have a presence on MyBroadband and may be able to further clarify or correct where necessary...

Hi, as DJ says, we are an open access provider, and in our fibre areas, an FTTH customer is free to use any of the approved ISPs on our network.

It seems that in the case of the OP, there was some confusion as to the relationship, but they have signed up with Fredd, the ISP, who rightfully is not open access.

I am in the same predicament
Tried to convince body corporate to go another router but they still chose FREDD. Product is not bad but customer service is seriously lacking and they are overpriced.

Icecoder - can you please advise if you came right with cisp?

Don't even get me started on how bad the customer service is with Fredd. It has been issue after issue after issue, just trying to get the fibre installed. Having to keep chasing them, because if you don't nothing happens. Keep hearing promises of when something will happen and then just radio silence until you chase them again.

Luckily the installation is almost done and hopefully nothing ever goes wrong with the line, else I do not know how it will ever be sorted out.

Whatever service they call it, it can definitely not ba called "Customer Service".

Experienced the same and can safely say it does not get any better

Evotel is in some of the surrounding estates - much cheaper R399 for 5 Mb uncapped vs Fredds R499 for 5Mb 50G hard cap on month to month

Fredd charges R599 for 5Mb uncapped (100G softcap) while several other providers have 10Mb uncapped for same price. See Cisp above

No 24 hour support or number to call for faults.

Hardware provided is C**p

Seriously thinking of going back to telkom if I can't get another ISP on fibre

still trying to move ISPs on TTConnect from Fredd

The ISP I want to move to is struggling to get confirmation from TTConnect if my estate specifically has open access Fibre

TTConnect - please advise if we can assume that the move between ISPs on this list is allowed
http://www.ttconnect.co.za/tt-approved-isp-s.html

kindly confirm on the forum to avoid confusion

Is it as simple as cancelling with one ISP and signing up with the other?
Will line transfer be done between ISP & TTConnect?
What is the lead time?

Thank you

Firstly, all of our fibre is 100% open access.

You certainly can change between those ISPs. Your cancellation (and any fees for that) will be between you and your current ISP. You will then apply with the new ISP, and they will place the order on me. Turnaround time for you to be live again, will be 24hours from when the new ISP places that order on TT Connect.

Experienced the same customer service......no good at all, signed up in Oct, till now, i cannot get onto the FTTH. Promises after promises, if i can choose again, i will not sign up for this.

On the day of installation, someone phoned and say they are no coming.
And the other time, they just do not pitch at all.
