Hi Guys, a salesman at a Vodacom store told me that the 3.6Gbps service would not carry the R50 surcharge starting from this month, can anyone confirm this? Maybe a Vodacom representative or someone who has the service? (I want to active it on my prepaid sim if this is true)

No, 3.6 HSDPA is still a VAS service at R49 per month.

The HSUPA service is now free though, but obviously your modem must support UPA. It is automatically active on your SIM.

Typically if something is free, you don't need to activate it.
 
Thanks for the info, someone should really put some more effort into training the sales reps. It is really frustrating asking them questions like this and all they give you are the answers they "think" you want to hear in order for you to buy a 3g modem!!
 
Unless he made an honest mistake of HSDPA 3.6 and HSUPA?

Anyway, Vodacom 3.6HSDPA isn't all that great ;) You'll be lucky to see 800mbps faster than you're getting now on the 1.8mbps profile

This was added in by the Legal Adviser of Vodacom on my insistance to clear up any confusion.

As far the Franchisee Shops and staff training, this is where vodacom falls short and is the cause of most the problems seen on this Forum.

Vodacom Service Providers are also to blaim eg. If the your number is owned by Nashua Moble and AutoPage then I feel extremely sorry for you with your limited use of V4Me uses and poor service. On the other hand if your number is owned by VSP (Vodacom Service Provider) trading as Franchisee Vodacom4Me or Vodashops then you can expect less problems and 200% use of V4Me site to resolve matters.
 
Well apparently what I think the sales person meant is that when 7.2 is launched that the 7.2 will hold the R49 a month cost. And then the 3.6 speeds will be the standard.

So the standard speed on the network will be 3.6 down and 1.4 up....and if you want 7.2 down then you'll need to pay the R49 per month.
 
Last time i checked, i am getting speeds of 1.8, or just above that on speedtest.net. How is it that i have had to pay extra?


if vodacom goes 7.2, does that mean that my speed would be 7.2?

i think that 3.6 IS the standard ATM
 
When Vodacom goes 7.2, then that will be a value added service.

At the moment 3.6 is a value added service of an extra R49 per month.

So if you don't pay that R49 per month, then your speeds are 1.8 down and 1.4 up.
