Free Antivirus

In all honesty, you will not find better than Bit Defender. Install it and forget about it.

Bit defender caused all sorts of k@k on my pc, programs stopped running scp Connections becomes a hassle, VMs becomes a problem, don't even let me get started if you have any pirated software, you can forget about it.

Bit defender is good yes, but the amount of effort required to make normal stuff work again is why I went to Eset.

Strange I haven't had any issues with Bitdefender yet, switched from Avast a couple of months ago.

Maybe it was the cloud version I had, I don't know, I just know I had a myriad of issues that all miraculously disappeared when I uninstalled it (with that said uninstalling ain't so straightforward either, it left a bunch of stuff)

Yip,
I also have never had any issues, I run it on all my computers plus a server. Also never had any connection errors and i'm on the WUG, besides that I have another computer running through a VPN and have a private network setup at home. Again I have no had a single issue with Bitdefender.
Its the most lightweight antivirus i have ever used with fantastic detection results.

that being said, If i was willing to go paid, nothing competes with ESET Nod32, used it for years.

Same here. It was such a pain. Customer support was no help. Changing to another antivirus fixed all the issues.

The free packages are getting better in "Trial mode", however I pay R299 per YEAR for ESET NOD32 AV and love it. Updates definitions daily and catches just about anything.

Got a copy of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2015 (retail version) for "free". It came with my new Asus Maximus VII Ranger Z97 mobo. Too bad the license will be expired next year. Will find out if it's really worth it.

Linux with windows butt-naked in a virtualbox. I don't let windows access the Internet...

Thanks for the info guys. After using a couple of free antivirus software I settled with Malwarebytes Premium and Bitdefender Internet Security that I got for cheap on g2a.com

Thanks. Will inform how it goes but I must add that Panda was pretty good but the annoying popups of the free version was a bit annoying. Decent free antivirus though.

im using AVG & Malewarebytes and i havent had a problem. Avast detected some downloads as infected which wasnt (quite annoying) i havent used Bitdefender though. MSE aint any good

Glad I read this thread.

My 10 year old PC has been running for a month or so without protection, tired of Kaspersky running in the background slowiiing my PC down so uninstalled it.

Gave MSE a try right now, it found no malicious software.
