You might think me a plonker for reporting this, but it bothers me...

I bought a CellC modem in 2011 and at the same time bought a year's data, which expired in October 2012. I then took the modem to the UK and Finland and bought a 3 SIM card. When I got back here, I discovered that the original SIM did not work, so I went to a CellC store and got another. My friend from the UK visiting here wanted to borrow it, so she loaded about R1200 data airtime. This was in October 2014

The modem still works and I can download movies, surf the web, etc. From time to time this year, I have attempted to buy more airtime but am told to take out the SIM from the modem and put in my phone and buy airtime this way

This won't work since the modem has a full-sized SIM whereas my iPhone takes a smaller sized (micro?) SIM

So I called CellC, asking how to buy airtime. No-one seems to know

Now, I am told that the number in the modem has been discontinued and therefore I cannot buy airtime. However, it still works perfectly well and the log shows I have transferred 6020Mb of data since October 2014.

No-one at CellC (Customer Care) or at the shop knows what to do about this. The fellow at the shop said it should not work, but it does.

An anomoly?

Why do you need to remove the SIM from the modem to buy airtime?

If you know the MSISDN (telephone number) of the SIM card, you can just go a Cell-C store and ask them to load airtime, or data, etc. or use internet banking.

Depending on who you speak to at CellC, this is what you are told to do (take out the SIM)

I have the phone number of the SIM. If I get it to send me a text, the number appears on my phone. The problem is that CellC say this number is unallocated and does not exist. Therefore I cannot recharge it with airtime. I tried the recharge option on Nedbank, but the amount was returned the next day with the reason "could not allocate"
