Free e-mail for Vodacom users

Vodacom used to have free email addresses. Eg. I used to have [email protected] and it used to be sent to my phone as an sms :) ok. It didnt always arive right away...a bit delayed sometimes but it still got there. Maybe it still works? give it a test?

Oh the lengths that these isp wannabees would go to... People ask for free access to email and they get a 'free' mailbox that will cost them an arm and a leg to use instead. I've had it with all these 'value added' services when all we really want is decent prices on the basic services. I wonder how many of these new 'lockees' know that you can get a multi-GB mailbox for free from google.
At last. In the past one had to pay R29 per month for this email service...or was it this one. You get 5MB space here. Did anyone have the R29 per month email service from VC? Know how many diskspace you had?
It's 1GB for the paying service, but you got it free on a 500meg bungle contract. Vodacom can give 1GB for free and make an even larger profit from the data usage and spam, but we don't want to give them any ideas now.

Sounds like you're confusing email with Vodacom's "email to sms" service ;)
That one still exists as far as I know... but you can't retrieve messages sent to your no. @voda.co.za as email - it's just meant for sms..

lol, will never use a ISP or Vodamail.

* This service is FREE to all subscribers who subscribe to a MyMeg 500 data bundle or higher

All other customers

* All other Contract, Top Up subscribers and Prepaid users can subscribe for their own personal e-mail address at a monthly subscription fee of R29.00
* Payment will be made in advance, on a monthly basis as per existing rules for monthly subscriptions

Who said it was for free???????

Stalker that page is about the 1gig service they offer, the next page describes the free service.

I love the way the news services pounce on it as if it's an all-new "First for South Africa" - the way Vodacom normally broadcasts their new services. Shame that MTN got there so many years before - and have kept it there.

But yeah, stick with GMail. It's just as fast over EDGE - I've tested.

I'm not sure I follow you. You already get a 25mb box with the blackberry service.

Yep only 25mb. You must managed it very carefully because it get full very quickly. Would be very nice if it is 1Gig

I run everything through a gmail account first to cull the spam and for storage. Everything going to the blackberry account gets auto deleted after a few days so its problem solved. Bedsides - that blackberry email address is ridiculously long to be handing out - @mobileemail.vodafonesa.co.za

I'm not sure I follow you now. If they extend it to the blackberry you would only get a 5MB mailbox, or are you talking about the 1GB you get with a 500meg bungle? They can easily give the latter considering the premium you pay for the blackberry service or would that use too much data?

My girlfriend always had free mobile email as long as she can remember, then again, she's on NTT Docomo and her address ends in .co.jp ^_^

Network independent South African free mobile mail

Check out mailmate.co.za. The Web site is a bit cheezy but the mobile mail interface is the best around. Is is free, handles attachments etc. U'r also not tied to a particular network.
