Ok, so I've successfully registered on the internet.org site and received confirmation of this.

My question - can I access Facebook via the normal Android app or do I need to do it via the browser by clicking on the
Facebook link on the internet.org site?

The reason I'm asking is that I've checked my data counter (by dialing *101#) and it seems that data is still being deducted when using the app. Using the online version is not very nice and it still encourages you to rather download the app.

whether you go to facebook.com or internet.org, you will be charged for the data you used

Someone's clearly not on Cell C...

OP you have to go through internet.org now, app isn't free anymore since the end of August

Just an update. I read through the Terms & Conditions on the link and saw that there is an app (only available on Android). I installed it and now it seems to be "linked" to the Facebook app - when I accessed FB via Wi-fi, I was informed that the free data only applies when I access the app on CellC data, but that I could still access the app. I disconnected from the wi-fi and was able to access FB minus any photo's or video's. When clicking on a photo a message pops us informing you that data charges will apply if you continue. So it seems to work now

Yes it appears to link to every related app. It was the internet.org app that recommended I download the FB Messenger app and it installed as a standalone and not bred into the ....org

Not really great communication from CellC - guess they'd rather have people spend a bit of their data in the process of finding out how this thing works

Hi Mets

We are sorry that you feel that way.

When Facebook as introduced, we advertized that it would only be available for a certain period of time, of which after that it would continue from internet.org.

As advised in the ads, terms & conditions apply which were always there so that customers knew what would happen after "free" Facebook.

We have extended the promotion on internet.org with limited benefits.

Viewing pictures is now chargeable. Refer to https://www.cellc.co.za/explore/services/internetorg-1.
