Free internet using MTN's network!

Cant Mtn s.a have a flat rate for gprs per day ? Eg: R 6 per day with full browsing excluding downloads or with downloads :D vodacom wont allow to even connect with .80c while with mtn you can browse and download up to the last cent.i would love a flat for mtn gprs.

Well it would be realy nice *hint* *hint* ...but there is no way, AFAIK, for MTN/etc to determine if you are 'downloading' or’ browsing’- That would require a third party browser (and allot of other bells and whistles) to directly block downloading. And even then, you could be able to bypass it.

Flat rate :-)

I like that idea

My vote goes to: FLAT RATE GPRS

Flat rate :-)
I like that idea
MTNDD

:D :D
Do this mean what I think this means?!?!?!:D

But MTNDD,who are you? Do you have the 'power' to start something like that? Are you at the top of MTN's management/middle/lower/underground/non existing?? Are you high enough to influence the right people?

go MTNDD go!
you have my full* support

_hoping for the best_

Also:
The industry's standard and definition of ‘Flat Rate’ really is not the same as my definition of ‘Flat Rate’

Keep that in mind now…

They had flat rate in Europe but it was too expensive. It is a good idea, especially for GPRS. If you look at the amount of data people typically use its not that much. If you use more than 30MB in a day on GPRS, then you are getting a sore bum and going blind at the same time ;)

i believe this is one of those, ill believe it when i see it issues

It’s a great idea, I don't see why this wouldn't be one of the options to look at from a Marketing perspective...........

I'm sure this is something the networks are already looking at.......

MTNDD

True that, BUT how much can a person use in one day?

Average , Lets make it high 5KBYtes/s
300 Kbytes/minute
18000 Kbytes/hour (17.6MB)
432000kbytes/Day (421.9MB)
12960000Kbytes/Month (12.4GB) ***if i am correct

So this means that the absolute maximum transfers in a month would be about 12.4Gig, (on a GPRS ONLY connection)
Say at a flat rate of R500/month it will cost R40/gig (id go for that, but what does it cost 4 MTN?
We would like to see a flat rate of about R150/month tho (R12/gig)
And some users will do this 24/7 thing.

Now to be more realistic, work this out on 6hours/day 5days a week

@5kbytes/sec
300 Kbytes/minute
18000 Kbytes/hour (17.6MB)
108000 KBytes/day (6 hours 105.5MB)
2160000 KBytes/month (5days a week 2Gig a month) ***again if i am correct

Now @ R500/month it would mean R250/Gig 25c/MB
or ideally @R150/Month = R75/Gig or 7.5c/MB
Then, i personally think it would be better for the network to charge a flat rate of say 10c/MB on gprs.

BUT like i said, not likely to happen in our lifetimes

Jip,not in my lifetime...i wont ever see a low flatrate GPRS internet.
@ these prices GPRS pricing is going near ADSL pricing. But ADSL is not mobile.
A 12GB per month 'cap'...no i dont want a cap really...should be OK for me ;)
And GPRS at 10c or under per MB will realy get my attention.

MTNDD, MTN should file a legal complaint against MTN Rwanda. Their using a similar name as you are! :p Because MTN SA != MTN Rwanda....how come they have flat rate already???? Wheres our flat rate!?!?!!!

But what does that flat rate cost? $$$$?

I see there's no dial up wonder if they using WIMAX? seeing that there's no dial up

Also wonder what that flat rate costs - Will try and find out

MTNDD

There are few landlines in Rwanda. MTN has been milking it for 10 years - being the monopoly wireless provider. They now have competition in the form of Teracom. May make it interesting, considering that Teracom is a US company with lots of marketing clout.

According to Rwanda MTN site its via GPRS and costs R241(contract) to R267 (pre-paid) (1 RWF = R0.0133893) p/m. No caps - unlimited access.
