Free pass brought into effect from 2014

The quality of education inside the classroom drops drastically, for one. There are numerous other pitfalls to this.

Might as well just scrap school if we're to say that this is meaningless...

i could not agree more. my wife is a teacher (grades 10, 11, 12) and we discuss this a lot. the struggling learners create an extra load on the teacher, who is then less able to teach the competent (i.e., have not failed and been pushed through) learners

The sad thing is everyone is only catching onto this information now as they "apparently" only instituted this recently.

My mom's a teacher and she says that this rule has been in place for about 6 years now. At the end of the year the GDE makes the teachers give marks to kids until they "officially" pass. This falls inline with the kids not being able to fail within a 3 year cycle.

So don't worry people - the kids coming out of matric have been borderline retarded for years already :)

Hold on. Are you saying education was better under apartheid and the few years after that ended?

The quality of middle class education has dropped significantly since the end of apartheid. You can argue for or against the quality of the education for the poor and discriminated pre-1994 but the problem is that "middle" (middle class whites pre-1994 type level) education has dropped.

Even university levels have dropped as quota needed to be met (teachers etc).

I too begin to ask this question more and more. And my brain knows the answer but my heart refuse to accept it. I f and hate the thought of SA been called a banana republic because us Africans can't rule. But keep in mind, the fault is not ours! Is the white man who denied our fathers and mothers the necessary skills. I only can hope Malema will somehow fix all this mess.

I have no words for this.

A great example :p
