Hi all:)

Does anyone know where I can get a free portable edition of Outlook Express? I tried googling but only came up with commercial ones:(

(Portable = able to install on and run off a flash drive)

Thanks:)

I don't think there is one, there's a Portable Thunderbird though. ;) Better than OE too. :D

On the browser front I use Opera and Firefox more than IE. With regards to email clients I use OE on my home pc. I use portable email for my work email. I have tried Portable Thunderbird and now I'm using the email on Portable Opera but what can I say, I'm an OE addict :D

What specifically don't you like about OE other than it being a MS product?

Haven't used it in a few years, it does what it does reasonably well I suppose, I just find it lacking in terms of spam filters etc. Didn't particularly like the interface either. I use plenty of MS products so that's not such an issue really. I mostly use the Gmail web interface these days anyway, quite useful when you're accessing email from multiple locations and I can get email on my phone with the Gmail app etc. as well.

OE seems to be the only one with all the features that I require in a single email client. Spam is not a problem if you are using pop3 access for gmail since gmail already blocks the spam messages.

My hiccups with the other email clients are as follows:
  1. Thunderbird
    • A coding problem with some emails eg. the message received report from Mobisms.
    • My html signature gets screwed up when someone replies to my email and my signature is still in it.
    • When replying to an email it sends you to the bottom of the message being replied to inspite you specifying in the settings that you would like a reply to be above the message being replied to.
  2. Opera Mail
    • I've only been using it for a week and so far I have found that you can't use an html signature.
