I scratch around for an alternative regularly, but nothing is quite as good.
Adobe Reader, on the other hand, is the most arrogant piece of software on my machine. Every update (and they are apparently required almost every month) it insists on placing a shortcut on both my desktop and the root of my Programs menu. I pride myself in a very well organised start menu. Who do the azzez think they are?

convert to word. convert to pdf. merge multiple pdf files. comment add text revise etc etc.

Just work with word and print to pdf.
There are several sites that let you convert to word if you need to.
