Free SA Linux Distribution

Ah another newbie to Ubuntu and Mint. Cute.

Ubuntu is awesome, but people can download it for all I care. Hats off to you anyways if you're honest about it.

Anyone clicked on the dodgy short URL? (I'm not interested)

People have bought from me on this very forum, so I can be trusted. Either way, there is no benefit for me, so the less requests the better. Here's the full URL: http://waldoluisribeiro.wordpress.com/linux/

EDIT: I just checked my blog statistics, and eleven people have visited the site from the short URL I provided. Your cynicism is not appreciated.

My apologies, the comments was not aimed at you personally >>> It's the use of short URLs I hate.

And I don't know you (yet) so please don't take offence to the apparent distrust - it's called paranoia.

Dodgy, very dodgy. Why pay some clown for "postage" of discs when the option is available directly from Canonical at no cost* to the user? You could also purchase the disc if you wish, through the developer or a local distributor.

*You can make a donation to Canonical when you request the discs.

No worries, I don't care much for linux and even less about your blog/credibilty/etc. If you welcome comments and suggestions, learn to take criticism with grace instead of being snotty when confronting someone about something you took offence to.

mmm...
Firstly the clown comment and then the "harsh" bit about my favourite type of OS.
Extra super soft toilet tissue can't wipe the snot from that, brew...

I don't know if Mokusei is good/honest etc, but he did handle your comment with grace.

Mokusei very commendable you are trying to spread the word of GNU/Linux, not a bad blog, looks good.

I understand you are going to charge for the shipping, just a few Q's and suggestions:

1. What are you going to charge for shipping, transparent costs would be great ?
2. Please do some research on the Free available options for the various Distro's and list them up on your blog, that way you do not come across as a 'shady" character and are also promoting GNU/Linux Distro's as they were orginally intended to be. If someone wants to order from you at a cost at least they are aware of the options and can make the 'Choice' that suites them best.
3. Would be great if you listed the various DE's and a basic rundown of memory usage compared with other DE's.
4. Please add PuppyLinux or Lighter DE's as an option for those that have lower spec machines, especially if your target market is South Africa.
5. Please add PCLinuxOS up there, it seems to be very unknown yet such a powerful Distro, i.e I have both Mandriva and PCLOS but would choose the latter anyday.

As has been said kudos for trying to promote Linux. Just remember that any distribution you send out is outdated (Ubuntu usually seriously so), so your customer will need an Internet connection to update.

Another slummies dude. Good posts, ignore the trolls.

Good luck on your project.

Good initiative dude. If only the freedom toasters had taken off like intended then you wouldnt have to mission. There are lots of opensource fans here so ignore the neighsayers and keep at it.

i like your attitude. however i feel i should point out that the venerable fosscds.co.za recently closed down. maybe get in touch with them and find out where the issues where.

have you looked at ultimate edition/ultimate games edition. its a huge download (+-4gigs), so definitely something that will be worth ordering from you, rather than downloading- you may want to add it to your catalogue if you havent already. http://ultimateedition.info/

Good Job Good Job

Awesome work Mokusei!

Can see you have been very busy and great additions, thanks for your effort.
You have been open and transparent, awesome contribution to the community, enough said.

Wow awesome. Great work. Its great that you are helping to spread Linux.

Just a few points:
1) Maybe try selling the discs on your BoB account also, some people will feel more secure if they buy it through BidorBuy. You can make one entry, and let people choose which distro they want for example.
2) Maybe also try to get the 64bit versions. And maybe get in touch with a nearby Linux Enthusiasts group, that way you can source some of the distros from "friends". Maybe also contact a nearby University's Computer labs, which might also have a LEG and have access to TENET, meaning faster download for popular distros.
3) Try to buy the discs in bulk, that way it will save you a lot of money, but that is only if it gets really popular.

And Good Luck

A good way of posting is Postnet Counter to Counter. I use it all the time with dj's CD players from all over the country.
Just remember to ask for Economy. It gets there in two days and is very cost effective.
They can also help with packaging.

Oh, that'd be great then! Do you know how much it costs exactly?

It depends how far you send it. The further it goes the more it costs. A cd would be negligible. Your client picks it up at his nearest Postnet.

Alright. Sounds good. Could you perhaps give me an example cost of something you've sent so I can more or less get an idea? :)

A Denon CD Player weighing about 1.5kg's to George cost me R150.00. A cd would cost like 10 bucks

+1 Milomak
Great idea that....used them a whole lot of times, I think one can even take their model and run a business off that
