Free software for creating panoramas?

I'll give the M$ tool a try. So far I still use Canon Photostitch that came with my old S1.
It works magic on all sorts of photos even ones not taken with Canon hardware.
Here is an example of what it did with a series of pics from my N82 :

This is what the program can do!

So here is what the program can do. Two examples as promised.
Just take into account this is done with a point and shoot camera and a home made tripod which was fairly stable-ish and allowed me to rotate the camera. (Dont ask about that though)

So here is example 1 and here is just a bigger version

While this is example 2 and its enlarged version

What do you think? Of the program firstly and the pics secondly, seeing that this was just a test run.

Nice shots, Ice. With a bit of effort, panoramas can be a very rewarding form of photography.
I have not used a tripod in the ones I've done, the ability of the software to compensate for the lack of one makes it kind of redundant for me.

Only heard about ICE now from this thread. I downloaded it quickly while I went outside and took some photo's of a 360 degree view outside by my office.

I must admit, It works better than the program that comes with my camera. Here are the two different photo's to show you what I mean.

Nice panorama Kalvaer!

You should try throwing a bunch of images at it that pans both horizontally as well as vertically. Plus take them from the center outwards so that they are not in sequence.
MICE still detects and stitched them together perfectly. Impressive !

I was really impressed that it also knew where to cut off. On the second image you can see that the cam software duplicated the building on the far right, and far left. Where M-ICE realised it was a duplicate and didn't

Looks pretty impressive. I'm going to try installing W7 on a virtual machine so will be able to give MICE a shot and see how it compares with PS3.

Gonna give MICE a bit of a testing now....

going to throw a WHOLE lot of images, of all differing focal lengths, and see if it can figure them out :)

Ok.. scratch that... it just got confuzled and I have a building hanging in the middle of the ocean... v v odd looking.

I think you're supposed to still follow the normal rules including not changing focal lengths.

Yeah.. i know...

I was just testing how intelligent it might actually be :p

OH well, this is what it eventually chucked out at me after some playing around
