"Free" Vodacom Internet!

1ST of september, spring and no free internet to celbrate it with...

I just spent time reading through the last few pages of this topic, after your post about using the free internet not being hacking the system, i have to agree with you on that as people just had to use the normal settings in the beginning.

Now, when using the vlive internet on computer, you had to add "special" settings on your computer? Does this go through as hacking the network? Or only finding a hole and exploiting it?

Then reading back a little bit further another loophole was mentioned/busted by 7446... Using the mms apn, now the question i have to ask here, using the mms apn, has nothing to do with vlive, now is that hacking the network or not?

There seem to be people who make it their mission in life to get these things for free, and i am sad to say, i support them 100% and will continue to do so untill we get decent priced services.

Can't comment. Don't know the settings yet.

Irrelevant, doesn't work. May work with a proxy chain though.

I don't make it my mission to find any loophole. I simply saw one in the beginning and didn't stop until I knew exactly how the system worked. If there is a hole somewhere and I have the ability to find it then I will continue until I do and will share what I know after having the privilege to use it a while. The way vlive is currently implemented there will always be holes.
 
we are still flogging this goat... maybe vodacom should take advantage of the situation? get the marketing team together and brainstorm ideas on how to make this work for vodacom, not against it.

introduce new products like i suggested earlier... about the R50p/m uncapped access vouchers... the problem is with vodacom lately there is plenty of talk about doing this and "we are considering that" how about actually doing some things??

obviously with Alan Knott-Craig almost kicking the bucket there cant be much decision making going on... but maybe some decisions should be implemented right now. Carpe Diem. (i apologise for the philosphical post - i wrote my english Trial/Prelim/Mocks today, its still rubbing off)
 
And it's alive again despite all the flogging. It would be easier for Vodacom to just give everybody what they want - affordable internet access - instead of going around plugging holes in a sinking boat.

Now that i am sure almost anyone can agree to, BUT what is affordable?

R50 pm for unlimited? R50 at this time, with telkom ruling bandwidth, and neotel only starting out, would barely buy one gig from telkom, and how much will the user use?

Average users maybe 300-500MB but some users will go overboard!
 
you no it aint our fault vlive had this stupid hole in there system wit free net and you guys said they knew about it so y not stop it in the begining? i think they just wanted more customers to buy vlive branded fones they were making more money selling fones than if they had to charge for gprs there must have been a reason behind knowing its free and not stopping it in the begining? i say what they doing and did is totally unethical

:eek: With spelling like that you can't have done very well...

As for the uncapped rumour - people, reality check: You pay over R1000 for a Telkom uncapped account, and that is for a super slow ADSL connection. Now will some of you wise-asses please tell me how you think that Vodacom plans on dishing out uncapped for R50pm? :rolleyes: Anyone?

Considering that international providers are charging premium rates for 3G / GPRS service. In the UK prepaid rates are as high as a pound a MB.
 
it was just a suggestion... why do you always have to burst my bubble? i wrote Technical Drawing today (oh the horror) and the free internet well ill admit the goat is still alive and being milked. goats milk tastes nice...:eek:
 
Vodafone Live! is an entertainment / news / sales portal for Vodafone, you can surf the Vodafone Live portal for free on your phone but as soon as you surf anything else you get charged for the data. If you have not got a Vodafone Live! cellphone you can just point your browser to live.vodafone.com - vodacom users can browse this for free.
 
it would be nice if they could introduce something like that R50 a month thing i would pay that just to surf the net im always chatting to my gf on a certain chat site and i use R12 every 2 days and its getting costly who ever has authority or some sort of ability to ask voda to do something like a package like R50 a month to surf as much as u want but download swill cost 2/mb

Well in fact they pay up to 4 pounds per MB

but then again, on orange they pay 1 pound a day for unlimited... It all comes down tho to the fact that nobody really have to use mobile internet over there coz broadband is so cheap

Well that goat was still alive for some people...that is till round about 14:14 today. The goat is now realy dead! And the Vlive Portal works like it was supposed to work in the begining. No charge for using it 'browsing', any off-site browsing get charged for....with or without a Vlive phone. Vodacom has fixed it,for good i think.

Now bring us those PPdatabundles!

It's more of a wish... no, wishes actually come true... it's more of a pipe dream really. Uncapped would actually be capped at 1GB like almost all cellular broadband worldwide. R150/GB would be more realistic in about a year or so.

Only if you use vlive with the proxy.

You can do that for R3 every 2 days on VM. How would Vodacom differentiate between surfing and downloads? Not possible. Vodacom has to indiscriminately charge for usage.

From what you sent me there were no special settings and the only reason they were getting it was because of being on a top-up contract. I wonder how many people took out a contract for free net. :D

Exactly. That's unethical. There are many people out there who will believe whatever salespeople tell them. :rolleyes: It does actually hold water as you had to use the vlive apn which is very restricted and runs through a proxy which reduces traffic outside the network. The internet apn was used mainly to connect on a computer and didn't have any of these restrictions.
The fact is that everyone that took advantage [of the VLive loopholes when Vodacom was unable to charge due to back-end system issues], got a free ride and now that the free ride has come to an end, some are still b1tching about having to pay like everyone else for internet access, which IMO is an unreasonable expectation!!!

What I am b1tching about is the fact that Vodacom stopped it without warning. Thereby resulting in people being charged without even knowing it. Vodacom knew about the free browsing and allowed people to use it and therefor it was unethical to not give a warning.

Btw. Vodacom still haven't implemented ppdbs despite the system being in place. All they used it for is charging for vlive access. It seems Vodacom would only do something to further their own interests, but we knew that already. :rolleyes:

Exactly the reason why people would have thought it to be free, but they would get free browsing at least, which is what a lot of people's definition for the internet is. The internet and internetvpn apns allow access to all parts of the internet at least including p2p, streaming, and large downloads. It's all we really need unless you're hosting a server on the connection.
