Our one client is hosting our software on their server and for support services, we need to be able to connect to their server via VPN. Since they don't already have a VPN in place, they've said we can try and work something out ourselves.

So far, we have Hamachi installed which works ok, but the problem is that often it disconnects for some reason and then it can only reconnect after restarting the server (not even restarting the Logmein service works). It just says "Reconnecting..." and doesn't seem to find anything. At this stage we have TeamViewer as backup for Remote Desktop access, but we require VPN access as we don't want the non-IT support people to have remote desktop access to the server.

I am however not really clued up with networking related stuff so I don't really know about how VPNs are set up or anything, just how to connect to them and of course, Hamachi which was fairly easy to setup.

Hamachi recently changed their IP range, and one of their updates last week caused connectivity issues last week due to their update getting "stuck" on the old gateway. I think it should be solved now, so I suggest You give hamachi another go.

I use it on a few PC's and don't have an issue.. It could also be Your Internet connection dropping.

Hi There give hamachi another try and then look at alternatives.
Not tried the Teamviewer connection but my support guys use it all the time for remote diagnostics.

Let us know if it is now solved.

Regards

Tim

I'd look at OpenVPN, but thats just me.

Hamachi has the advantage of having the hole punching mechanism built in, but ugh it never struck me as particularly elegant or stable. Not at all surprised that its disconnecting.
