For personal website stuff, Cybersmart Pink hosting is free, you just need to pay for the domain registration and renewal each year... no issues, reliable.

For production / commercial stuff, would never consider free hosting...

Does it have to be hosted in South Africa? atspace.com offer a good free hosting option and you can get a free domain from eu.org.

Well unless you're targeting the eu market, otherwise no.

When the international pipeline goes down you are cut off from your target audience (South Africans). Also the latency can be quite bad sometimes meaning the website lows really slowly. This is the sole reason why no one uses (or should use) AWS in South Africa.

That being said if you can't afford R100 for a .co.za every year and R20 or whatever each month for hosting you probably have bigger problems in life.
