Free Wi-fi confusion

Hiya. How can I use the free wireless that I'm receiving when I recharge on Telkom mobile with my usb modem? I get wireless broadband on 65502 but it uses my airtime/bundles instead of the free wireless.

It's for the telkom WiFi network you find in shopping centres etc.

So in effect, its absolutely useless. Strangely enough, the only advertised hotspot in my town is about 50 metres away from my house but I cannot connect at all, even when I'm right outside their door. They refuse to give passkey.

You don't need a passkey. You should be able to connect to "1 Telkom Connect"

Ahh, the ever illusive "telkom free wifi", see numerous other threads regarding this. Seems this service is only "really" for contract users.

Its a well known fact that since they changed the SSIDs with the "1" in front it does not work like it used to.
