As integrated with the Wikipedia App

Wikipedia Zero: Data charges waived for participating mobile operators

To get back to MTN, do this only apply to Opera Mini in their case?

Last time I checked yes support was only for opera mini. Hope they will expand and support the apps as well, basically zero-rate all Wikipedia traffic from mobile devices

The reason I asked is due to these snippets:

Following the publication of the letter at the end of October 2013, MTN responded with a statement saying it was already working on a programme to zero-rate Wikipedia access.

...

Not mentioned initially was the fine print, which required users to use the MTN-branded Opera Mini browser to access Wikipedia for free.

Do MTN participate in the Wikipedia Zero initiative or do they circumvent (through a branded Opera Mini) due to marketing reasons, meaning that they do not actually participate in the program.

And here you have it... A simple way to get education to the masses.
Well done, and may more service providers and educational url's follow suit.

Free data campaign from SA goes global
Curious about the title of this article : Orange Uganda and Kenya were free from 2012. SA petition was in 2013. Surely it is 'global free data campaign hits SA'.

Well done to MTN for the initiative, although the Opera requirement effectively guarantees low uptake (unless pre-installed on phones)

Well done to the project initiators because they highlighted the biggest problem in poor, developing countries like South Africa which is access to information for the masses. It could just influence the way in which the ANC was able to take most poor and uninformed people for a ride. Those people can finally start to follow the political trend in SA. :)

The headline refers to the fact that the Wikimedia Foundation is using a campaign inspired by South African high schoolers to promote the Wikipedia Zero project as a whole.
