Are you using a referral system on your links to other sites? Might be worth putting in place at the beginning.

I just copied the url of the latest download as a href.

I check each one weekly and then code a new link should one be broken.

I don't really care if they are hehe... This is the only method my noob mind could fathom.

Of course I am open to guidance.

Will you please help me right if I understand this wrong.

Is hotlinking when I make my download button directly to their download url effectively using their bandwidth instead of mine.

If that is the case, what would you recommend I do?
 
I'm going to finish the android and Linux section over the weekend.

I wouldn't recommend hosting the file unless you're identified as an official mirror. Just check the software site's download pages. They usually indicate whether they are happy with people hotlinking.

I'm personally happier getting a direct download link as long as I know it's a) legit and b) not outdated.

I'm sure they'll be okey with it :P if not... /meh lets hope they are.

I will do my utmost best to check the links are up to date every Friday for the rest of my life, that's how dedicated I am, no jokes.

It's my first site so actually a fun experience to be honest, ( lots to learn)

From what I gathered I could not find a better free music library replacement that looked and felt half decent so I went for Apple, however this is the point of this thread to give me feedback, what would you rather recommend?

For Windows there is foobar2000. http://www.foobar2000.org/

Better than iTunes but does require some setting up for the best results.

I did look at foobar and tested it so I call my dad and my grandfather and I asked them to install it and compare it to iTunes and they said they found it a lot more difficult from the type onto Google till the point where they played their first song.

So I then decided, the advance guys will probably use ninite and will already have a pretty good idea of what they want regardless, however with site I sort of want to appeal to the average not technical user as well so ease of use is very important on my judgement as to why I have the specific software listed.

Agreed, foobar is very DIY.

Not being a Windows person I went and did a search for all the fully featured and easy to use music players out there. That did not take long since there are less than I expected. Interestingly both Amarok and Clementine are available for Windows.

Downloaded Clementine and gave it a try. This worked well on Win 7. Someone who is not used to it will have to see how easy it is to use due to it having the slightly different playlist based approach rather than the instant click-to-play of iTunes (unless one fiddles with the settings that is).

That actually looks really nice I'm going to add it,

This weekend is a little bit full packed but I will have the new added software and the android section done soon.

Then going to add a Linux section although I'll have to consult with you guys since yea I struggled to load elementary OS... Hehehe so by no means an authority on what would be regarded as the essential Linux software.

I'm also thinking of maybe buying premium cloud storage and then host the programs myself to prevent hotlinking.
