Freelancer? Anyone remember this?

Freelancer was one of the most fun space combat/trading games I played a few years back. It was one of those games that I would party whenever I had a few free minutes, and I have never been able to replace it with any other in this genre.

The combat was a bit retarded, but a great time waster. But overall the entertainment factor was legend. I completed the missions numerous times, explored the whole universe, became a pirate, smuggler, alien hunter and all round bad ass. I sampled all the ships (the pirate ones were by far the best), found misc. kick ass cannons to mount on my ships.

I tried X2 and X3 , and other similar games, but found nothing that matched the sheer fun of it. You see, I played elite in its day, and the wing commanders, so freelancer was a good replacement

Does any one else have fond memories of this game? The reason I ask........ I just found this :

Freelancer was awesome dude! So many hours spent on that game....

Freelancer was a great game.

Wing Commander was the game that got me to upgrade my first PC!

Eish, good memories of that game (Tachyon Cannon :love:)

There's quite a few mods out there for freelancer with different ships and loads of other stuff. I tried a few, but wish I had the time to play with it more.
Google it, there was a huge following for this game.
 
Hey I started replaying this about 3 weeks ago, downloaded the good old freelancer companion too, forgot how complicated this game can be if you go strategic!
 
Freelancer, I remember getting the demo on a pcformat cd. Then one day got the cd for R100 :D gosh the story line was epic
 
I absolutely loved freelancer!!!! Don't think I'll play it on android though. Not the same experience as a pc

I loved Freelancer - I can't remember exactly if I ever finished it, but I'm sure I did.
I tried to play it again but I don't think I played it a 2nd time around and completely finished it.

Remember the radio chatter that you used to hear from other ships?
The hidden weapons that c could be found in the middle of minefields and asteroid belts that were so powerful that you only his your target 3 times before it exploded, and used so much power that you could only fire 6 shots and your ships power was depleted?
The Corsair and the Outcasts?
Which very heavy fighter was the best? The Corsair Titan or the Outcast stiletto?

"We are being taken down like Flies, and i have coolant leak"

So Much Stereotyping, Remember the 'Molleys'. and the fact the 2 main group from the crashed Hispanic ship were Criminal Empires.

Feel like playing it now

We had a retro LAN a couple weeks ago. Played Freelancer with 8 people for 2 days... was awesome.

I'm more of an X fanboi though. Freelancer was "before my time".

Unfortunately that one's only available in the Space Marshal pack any longer and the going price for that is $5,000 :cry:
 
This game looks graphically so awesome, but it seems like it is just gonna hurt the pocket.

When is final release due?
