Freelander 2 - How bad can it be?

Forester is a great alternative, for what it was I really enjoyed my time with a 2.5XT, but then again I wasn't paying for fuel, they're notoriously heavy on juice in turbo guise.

Question to the OP - will you only be using the vehicle for a few dirt roads on occasion? Because most of the current soft-roaders will handle that no problem.
 
The "lemon" FL1 goes for a pint these days.

Slightly off-topic. In America; always wanting to be different; the Disco 3 was called the "LR3". Likewise the Disco 4 is call the "LR4" there.

And the Freelander is the LR2...
 
FL2 is probably the most reliable vehicle LR has ever produced.

While it is a 'softroader', it'll run rings around a few 'proper' 4x4s in the hands of a capable driver.

At this high mileage, you can expect to start spending a bit on replacing key components though. I'd start looking at vehicles in the 100Kkm range if I were you.

This is such a stupid saying. A capable driver can run rings around any inept fool whatever he drives.
With that ground clearance, it's a softroader. End of story.

And saying it's probably the most reliable vehicle LR ever produced -what a load of balls. Ever heard of a Defender? Clearly not.

The problem I have is what else? At around 150k budget you don't have much choice. Honda CRV is underpowered, subaru uneconmical, not fond of the Korean and French brands.

Look for a lower mileage FL2. Of course, they will cost more.

Also depends where the mileage was done. If it was mostly tar roads it may be ok.

Nissan X-Trail? If that's not luxurious enough, the Renault Koleos is based on the X-Trail and is just as good but with more creature comforts and a much better ride. I know it's French, but it's an X-Trail :p. I've had both cars.

What happened to Koleos? As I understand they have almost no trade in value, but otherwise great cars.

Hold out and save a bit more. Unless the Jazz is falling apart and costing you money, bear with it another year. Buying a diesel with that many kilos on is putting yourself at risk.

Showing your ignorance here - ever heard of reduction transfer box? Ground clearance alone doesn't make it a softroader, and you can put a lift kit on the FL2 if you want to play rough.

As a matter of fact, I have heard of a Defender. I have a 90 Puma in the garage. And a Disco 4. And previous to that between my wife & I we've had an FL1, a 90 Tdi, a 110 DC Td5, and a D2 Td5. ;)

The defender was developed to be reliable and doesn't have all the foofies that can break that the FL2 has to make it a luxury car. It's known to be the most reliable LR.

Sorry, but your comments were stupid and factually way off the mark. The FL2 could never compete for the most reliable LR crown. Not in a million years. There are other softroaders with transfer boxes like the Forester. Big deal. And the Forester has arguably the best softroader 4x4 drive in the industry. And which is more reliable, a Forester or a FL2? We all know that answer.

P.S I could put a moerse lift and suspension kit on a citi golf and go places your FL2 couldn't go. We are talking stock cars here.

Last I saw 50% of Land Rovers will have a fault within 12 months. They were wooden spooners of the JD power survey.

Edit: Toyota was less than 10% if I recall. That gives you an idea how crap LR's are in terms of reliability.
