French strikes and riots {again}

Lucky for you, dude. I doubt I'll be able to retire at 50 though, despite contributing to my own pension. Some people have it easy, eh?

I know the French are rioting. It's French culture - they go on strike 3 days a week. They're bitching because they either have to work longer or pay more taxes, and they don't want to do either. Of course, they could also try dying earlier to reduce the load on the financial system, but wouldn't you know it, with all that free quality healthcare they've got going for them, the damn frogs just keep living longer and longer!

I think they're being bloody stupid, but on the other hand, they just want to protect their way of life. Which is also a noble cause, I believe.

Yes shame now they'll have to actually work and pay for their welfare benifits. Unless they flee to Sweden......

Yet liberals continue to paint France as socialist utopia
Seems conservatives are not intelligent enough to tell the difference between a welfare state and a socialist state. Well no one ever accused a conservative of being intelligent. Theyre a pretty thick bunch who dont learn.

Then Sweden's system will start to collapse, and they will be forced to pass laws to ensure that people contribute....and they will be called racists and there will be rioting in the streets. Vicious cycle. Masses just move from one place to the next like locusts.

As they say, "this is why we can't have nice things." :(

LOL, you okes make up random stuff to believe in. You sound like communists talking about the "imminent" failure of capitalism  You guys should get jobs at ICASA , then you can say imminent a lot.

And while you're making up random non-sensical responses that have no relevance or relation to what was actually said......."PONY, MONKEY, APPLE PIE, LEMONADE, COSATU, MPUMULANGA, ABRAHAM LINCOLN!"

I'm struck by the irony of youths protesting the increase of the retirement age. Methinks they're just thugs using this as an excuse to burn things. The French should start enforcing discipline with real bullets, we'll see how many cars get burnt then.

Probably the most intelligent sentence I have ever seen a conservative type.

Holy crap....you've created a whole fantasy world in which you have stereotyped people with next to NO information about them. One single post by a person on a topic, and not only have you applied your stereotype to what was said (thus drawing completely spastic conclusions about what was said), you've created a whole character for the person who said it.

That's truly special. I mean really...REALLY special.

Darn.. regression. Try with the pony again...

All of France is protesting. (It's their national culture!) The ones burning cars are the more hotheaded ones, who are usually also more youthful.

It's funny because the reason you can't see what you've displayed here is the same reason you can't understand what I've said. Think about it for a while....maybe it will come to you. Probably won't though :( This is actually screenshottable stuff here.

P...O...N ...Y come on, you did it once before, you can do it again.

It's already happening.....

Immigrant youths riot in Sweden, burning down school
Swedish police, Rinkeby - 9 June 2010 Up to 100 youths rioted for a second night in Rinkeby, Stockholm

Rioters in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, have burned down a school building and thrown stones at police in a second night of disturbances.

The trouble began on Monday after a group of youths in a suburb with a mainly immigrant population were refused entry to a school dance.

Police say up to 100 youths went on the rampage, throwing stones and setting several cars alight.

Two people were detained but later released.
'Little Mogadishu'

Police said the rioters threw stones at the fire engines, preventing them from reaching the school building before it burned to the ground. The youths also attacked a police station.

Rinkeby is home to a large number of first- and second-generation immigrants. Many of them are from Somalia, so the area is sometimes nicknamed Little Mogadishu.

Government ministers have visited Rinkeby to assess the situation.

]Not like it's anything new though

The Rosengard district in Malmo, Sweden, now resembles the housing projects of Paris.

Underreported by the Big Media, rioting has broken out all over Europe sparked by the Greek anarchists and the shooting death of a fourteen-year-old boy.

Sweden has been experiencing riots in the Rosengard district of Malmo. Disenfranchised “youths” with extremist political views have been burning cars and throwing rocks for the last few days. Rosengard now resembles the housing projects of Paris. Local rioters were aided by international anarchists and "anti-fascists" who came from outside, hoping to undermine the European social system.

After two nights of rioting and being pelted with rocks and Molotov cocktails, Malmo police called in riot police from Stockholm and Gothenburg. By the morning of December 19, the situation was calming down. The police made one arrest for rioting and held one other of disturbing the peace.

segregation and racism is rife......

The report, released on International Migration Day, illuminates how pronounced the differences in living conditions are between native Swedes and the country’s immigrant populations, particularly those born in Africa and Asia.

"We have seen that people born in these countries are well behind those born in the EU or other Nordic countries. The differences can be seen in education, the job market, and living arrangements," SCB’s Lotta Persson told The Local.

"I was surprised at how widespread segregation was in Sweden," Persson added.

The lowest employment levels are in the African-born population, who were also shown to more often hold lower-level jobs despite often having high levels of education.

Voter participation within the immigrant population is markedly lower in comparison to the rest of Swedish society, in particular for those from Africa, Asia and non EU European countries.

Housing is another aspect of life in Sweden where segregation of immigrants is very pronounced.

"It is obvious that many Swedish cities, both large and small, exhibit clear housing segregation,” said the report.

What a success multiculturalism and socialism eh sorry "welfare statism" has been. Guess they coulkd always go back to sterilising the unwanted...

Already in the 1920s Sweden established the State Institute for Race Biology that was to operate until the 1950s. State institutions, such as this institute, party ideologists and leading politicians formulated the sterilization programs in an attempt to improve the nation’s genetic material by insuring that citizens who were considered to be "insufficient", "imbecil", "deviant" and "a burden to society" would not have children. The legal base to this practice was passed by parliament in true democratic fashion.

While eugenic motives played a role in the sterilizations, economic aspects were also important. When child allowances - monthly payments to families for each child, administered by the tax-funded national social insurance scheme - were introduced in the 1950s, the number of forced sterilizations of the "undesirable" part of the population doubled. The Swedish concept of the "people’s home", formulated in the 1930s and the most influential vision in Swedish politics, was based on the ideal of a closely-knit, homogenous society - similar to a family - where all members would support each other. Each one would contribute according to one’s abilities and would receive according to one’s needs. The folkhem - as the concept is called in Swedish - was to become the foundation of decades of peaceful labor relations, far-reaching social reforms and unprecedented economic growth.

The dark side to this model was the harsh demand for conformity. People who did not correspond to the ideal of this new society were not welcome. For example, a recent newspaper article reported the case of a girl in her late teens who in the late 1940s was sterilized against her will. The justification given in her journal was the comment that she had often been seen hanging around the town’s dancing hall.

Another contributing factor why these "legal" human rights violations were tolerated and supported by so many for so long - 60,000 persons were sterilized in roughly half a century when Sweden¥s average population was about 6 million - was probably the absence of a court to investigate the constitutionality of new laws. Sweden has never had a revolution and the state and its administration have enjoyed a trust that many foreign observers find astounding. There were no perceived reasons for the necessity of an elaborate system of checks and balances as in other countries. Thus, in a country with a relative homgeneous population, without separation of State and Church, with strong traditions of collectivism and consensus decisions, majority rule in parliament has been considered to be a sufficient guarantee to pass laws in the nation’s best interest.

Can't have these foreign leeches clogging up the welfare state.......

I see what you did there... trying to save the conversation?

What did I do? Parallels were been drawn between rioting here and in France. Burning cars is one thing and I was wondering if (the cutting-off your nose to spite your face) other stuff was burnt as well.

<A proud member of the Keep fear alive rally >..

Its imminent ... just like the fall of Capitalism. ZOMG! We ganna die!

What I love about this.. is you cant produce a better system then the welfare model. Theres not one single country you can use as an example of a better more successful system ;) Its like speaking to Muslims, they recon their system is the best and highlight all the issues found in western countries, but cant give an single working example of their system successfully working.

Go figure... you and the muslims have something in common.

Its imminent ;)

Good to see the youth and students protesting for real things like labour bills and labour rights.
They managed to squash another bill back in 2006, hope they get it right again.
Sarkozy is a complete twit anyway.

Well it seems S.A is largly modeled on French system. Welfare state, multicultualism, political correctess, powerful unions and all the rest of it

The COSATU logic is the same. Take away our handouts, to prevent economic collapse, and we'll run the country into the ground anyway.

Best get it over and done with now lol.......

Its imminent  ... just like the fall of Capitalism. ZOMG! We ganna die!

Capitalism did fail though, didn't it? In 2008? When we realised it might not be such a great idea to give the market carte blanche to do what it likes?

On the complete other end of the spectrum from capitalism is communism, where the government is given carte blanche to do what it likes. (In essence!)

Somewhere in the middle is socialism, which puts limits on both the people and the government. You could say it - ahaha - strikes a balance between the two...

The frenchies are complaining that the government is dictating their lives to them. US conservatives are currently complaining about the same thing. Sounds like a match made in heaven - so why are our resident conservatives being so down on the French?
