The newly elected SABC board would challenge the appointment of former Telkom Media chief content officer Solly Mokoetle as its group chief executive officer, the Sunday Times reported on Saturday.

Mokoetle was "interviewed" for the post by Lumka & Associates according to the Sunday Times today. Now, as I understand it, Lumka Yengeni (Tony Yengeni's wife) is somehow involved with Lumka & Associates. Lumka's found no issues with his appointment even though he was fingered by the forensic auditors investigating the SABC for collusive tendering.

Obviously the new board would rather have someone "on their side" and cut them in on a few of the deals!

Taxes should never pay for media IMO. Its a recipe for disaster. Top that up with the fact that are financial unsound vs channels like E then you realize management has done a horrid job. Scrap the whole thing for good. Use the taxes for other things.

A board of "specialists" (erm ... friends) is appointed by PARLIMENT.
A CEO is appointed by the minister of communications.

The board's role is to sit round and take money for giving advice on decisions.
The CEO's role is to run the company.

The board is overplaying it's position, and ... they're getting paid to do it.

Do away with the Board and make the CEO responsible for the running of the SABC with the Parliamentary Oversight Committee as the watchdog and the Minister of Communications as his boss.

The SABC is a state organ, not a listed company.

Why on earth is he given a 5 year contract?
Make it a 1 year contract, renewable depending on performance, and make his salary/bonus etc dependent on performance too.

He already got an R11 million golden handshake the last time he 'left'. It's time the ANC stopped appointing their comrades to these positions because they're not capable of doing the job. Eskom, Denel, SAA ring any bells?
