Problem.

Afrihost responded with the following message with regards to porting a geographical number from Freshphone:

"We would have liked to port the number to us however the porting team are unable to port prepaid numbers at the moment.

If the number was not prepaid we would have been able to assist with the porting, unless the current provider can change the number from prepaid to postpaid."

Maybe i misunderstood did they say you can’t port a prepaid number or you can’t port a number to their prepaid service?
You can't port a prepaid number to their system.

Funny thing is when it comes to AirMobile the reverse is true - you cannot port contract sim card numbers to their system.

I don't see anything in the ICASA regulations that states you cant port a prepaid number. The only things mentioned are suspended accounts, special numbers and numbers already in a porting process.

I would fight that or if not I guess they lose out on a few thousand potential users joining them over the next few months.

I got the sense that is not so much a legal issue than it is a technical hurdle that they have to overcome.

The Afrihost (or their upstream provider Telviva's) system might not be set up for this.

I would actually like to know how they know its a prepaid number? All they have to do is issue a request to port with whoever their carrier is (maybe they can do it themselves since they have a telco license) and Euphoria will be contact to accept. There is no way to know externally if a number is prepaid or post paid?

The problem is the part of the documentation you have to provide to port the geographic number from one VOIP provider to another is a statement of account which Freshphone can't provide because it's a prepaid service.

Does anyone want to try this?

"Euphoria/Freshphone can give an invoice with the number reflected, you need an ID, invoice and to complete a port app with new provider"

I'm keen to see if anyone gets this right. I ported my Telkom landline number to Freshphone about 4 years ago. I'm going to be seriously upset if I can't port it out and lose it.

Has anybody done this yet to find out more about this express extension offer?
