G'Day Gents; I have the below Defy fridge bought new late 2013:

Lately the fridge has been defrosting itself on a daily basis; which is rather unusual; one would find about 2 cups worth of water beneath the crisper box.

The freezer component of the fridge does not have this issue.

Tried every single settings through the past few weeks to allow the fridge to stop defrosting but no luck.

Other than that no complains about the fridge.

Any idea what could be the cause of solution?

I have the exact same fridge, with the exact same issue. If I don’t remove the excess water for a few weeks, I can get almost half a bucket of water out.

Think i also bought it in 2013.

Cause of solution is it being fixed...... ;)

I also have a Defy fridge that was bought last year. Not the same model though. Mine looks like this . I have seen a few times where there is a bit of frost build up at the back and then a few hours after I will see little droplets forming and running down into the drain hole. Mine does not do this every day though. Also my model as far as I remember from the manual drains into a reservoir that gets evaporated by the heat from the compressor or whatever, so I dont have to worry about emptying a collector thing.

Not my actual fridge....but the same model.

Auto-defrost on some models? Keeping the freezer compartment clear of ice.

I have a small bar fridge, if I don't defrost it manually, ice will build up in the freezer compartment...

I don't have any frost on my fridge or freezer.
Newer fridges are supposed to be frost free.

Is this news to you guys?

Hence auto-defrosting. Or loadshedding. Older models doesn't have auto-defrost.

Had an old Kelvinator from yonkers ago once, it would generate a lovely load of ice around the freezer compartment, and you'll need to defrost it manually once every month or three months, depending on the ice...

Not all newer fridges are frost free- and those that are still make frost/ice. They just make it out of sight, on the evaporator coils, and periodically they heat up the coils to melt it, it drips down into a bowl on the compressor and from there evaporates.

Ja ... mine is on 3 ... but wanted to know if 2 is sufficient?

Do the milk test.

Keep in on 3. Buy a 1l milk sachet, and use it till empty (or milk turns sour). Make a note of how long it lasted.

Turn it down to 2. Buy a 1l milk sachet, and repeat the above experiment. If the milk turns sour too quick, then 2 won't work.

Also look at your veggies. If they stay fresher longer on 3 than on 2, keep it on 3.
