Frogfoot - Western Cape

Outage was a few minutes to midnight. This was a software upgrade.... But that's not the issue. It's going on 2 days. Same story every time. I am keeping track this is the 3rd massive Western Cape network drops in 12 months.
Yea.. Its become so obvious that the Frogfoot network is unstable.

I hear you!
On CoolIdeas site, the following.
-- Teams are in the background continuing with isolation and resetting individual routing instances that are showing flooding with the aim of reducing service impact.

Seems that somebody is so gatvol of FrotFoot's poor service...
And FrotFoot is blaming it on the Juniper equipment.
Yea.. Im not that technically minded and know from experience that Frogfoot is the problem.

Their network has noticeably deteriorated over the past 2 or so years & I have been with both Afrihost & Vox.

Thinking of moving to Vumatel as that is the other fibre provider in my area. No experience with them, are they any good? Was on Octotel before and never had an issue in the four years at that address. Unfortunately not available where I am now.

BTW, they’re increasing prices in Feb. That’s really going to strengthen their case… ROFL!!

Island View, Mossel Bay still down this morning. So going on day 4 now. The attached screenshots is from my PC connected directly to the ONT. Showing the Rogue DHCP device.IMG-20250103-WA0043.jpgIMG-20250103-WA0054.jpg

Possibly the longest internet outage of all the major fibre networks in the last ten years.

Brilliant. Well written, to the point and probably closer to the truth than we will ever get from FF themselves.

Creating this thread to try and keep track of the clownshow that is Frogfoot. Down 30 hours now across WC and apparently also EC. (all in the CoolIdeas thread)

Boswell-Wilkie level stuff here. Absolute clownshow.
It's been 4 days... I'm still not up and RUNNING... WTF?

It was ok yesterday, 4 Jan, in our part of Table View. Down this morning, 5 Jan.
Vumatel application logged.

Also off on myside of Tableview. According to RSAweb, Frogfoot identified a cable break in the Blouberg area.... no ETR

Tableview, only back an hour ago. This is something....

Still down in Mossel Bay. Honestly disgusting levels of service. Like some people have connection in my area and some don't. I wish I had another provider. Will switch in a second

People staying in our house in Caledon is stating their internet is down as well. FF Air with CISP. No outage I can find but this is all too coincidental.

Got mail from Cybersmart today:

Please be advised that one of Cybersmart`s 3rd party providers will be performing Emergency Network Maintenance. Frogfoot engineers will be completing Hardware replacement. Impact Description: 3 hours of downtime can be expected. Reason for change: Hardware replacement- Date and Time:2025-01-08 23:00 to 2025-01-09 07:00 We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this maintenance window.

I am still having issues with my frogfoot (via Vox) connection since the outage.

Convinced there is something up with the DNS. Maybe there is a firewall that blocking DNS traffic or a new network device that still has default IP (some have 1.1.1.1 default).
Have had them reset the connection on their side a few times, bounced my ONT and router countless times.

Can't reach cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1)

Can't reach Google DNS (8.8.8.8)

CAN reach Quad DNS (9.9.9.9) - for a bit anyway

Then I change my DNS to use Quad and it kinda works for a while and then Quad DNS stops working and Google works for a bit, then Cloudflare starts working for a while = rinse repeat....
Apple TV does not work at all. DSTV Stream works sometimes, but keeps disconnecting. Some sites do not work.

Anyone having similar issues?

EDIT:
Got it working at the moment with Cloudflare DNS over TLS
Lets see how long it lasts
