from tanking with protec... to tanking with DPS

hi all

can someone shed some light on this whole new way tanking is supposed to work?

I switched over to protec about 2 weeks ago, and now Im hearing that I need to go fury as that is how tanking will work from now on...

any info? perhaps a link to a site explaining

Tanking will still be prot spec. But dps tanking through death nights will be possible soon as well.

I had a lvl 70 Warrior tank for our group through BF nomal last night. We ran the instance in less than 20 minutes. He could have solo'd the whole instance if he wanted to. I never checked his spec, but I did say in chat Protection spec is Now IMBA ind he said he's not protection spec'd.

He was slapping up mobs in seconds, I just dropped AoE all the time and couldn't pull aggro ever.

Was awesome to see though

yeah, my one buddy is a prot warrior. It's crazy the amount of dps he can do while tanking.

Prot is still the tanking spec, that hasn't changed, however with the big nurf bat to all mobs and the lv 80 talents available on lv 70/73 mobs it's possible to tank fairly easly as Arms or Fury unless you are in T5 and above content.

Its also easy to DW in prot spec and tank as well as the average mob dies in 3 shots however with the right talents in Prot and a shield you can produce significant dps and don't need to DW tbh. I have got shield slam crits of 8 - 10k and before 3.02 a 2,5k crit was omg.

In addition with charge (in combat) , intervene, intercept, shockwave, concussion blow, improved spell reflect, improved TC, hugely increased DPS together with 18k hp and 18armor Prot pvp is much more viable

I currently grind my dailies in about 100th of the time it used to take me, and I now wear my dps gear (with board and sword) for everything up to 25 man content

the new protection spec is really PvP friendly i respecd to prot about an hour ago and ran some bg's it's really fun i still dont have the best gear but in protec spec i hav some decent DPS now. i think ill be tanking soon... never liked it but with the new talents it can only be fun
