I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this but I tried to play BF2 last night and I noticed my microphone is not working on my logitech headset.

First thing I did was unplug it, goto my other pc and plug it in directly into the back of the PC and bam, headset and mic worked.

So back to my main PC.

I plug my headset and such into the front panel ports (1 pink & 1 black) which I plug the mic connection into the pink connection and the black for the headset.

I'm using Vista Ultimate and a Intel DG965SS motherboard and I know the front panels are connected cause they worked 2 weeks ago and now that VISTA is on, they don't so it has to be a Vista / driver for vista related issue.

Oh, I tried to setup the mic but 'nothing' was coming thru.

Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it.

Any sort of direction would be appreciated because I can't play my online games without my mic :P

Okay, if you're sure that the mic used to work, theck that it is not muted in your sound settings. Windows mutes the mic input by default.

Not sure if this will work, but worth a try...

1. Right-click speaker icon in system tray and select "Recording devices"
2. Select the "Recording" TAB
3. Select "Microphone" then click properties.
4. Select the "Custom" TAB
5. Put a TICK (select) for the "Front panel microphone" option

Let me know if it works.

i doubt it will work properly. your soundcard is hidef, and the case is probably got an ac97 front panel. this combination will mean the microphone wont work.

the onyl thing you can try is to fire up the configuration utility for your soundcard, and have a lookf or a setting called "disable front panel jack detection" then try it again.

Have you tried checking the connectors again inside the case from the front panel to the motherboard? Sometimes just need to be pulled off and put back on - happened to my front mic jack... while the case is open, check the connectors at th back of the front panel in case a wire is loose.

killadoob: when I plug the headsets mic into the back, it works or at least if i talk and tap on it, the 'meter' thing goes up and down like it can hear it, but i can't hear anything

CodeMaster: there was no 'custom' option :(

Howardb: will try your idea before I goto bed see if that works but i dunno.

ernstn: will also try your idea.

I've also read up that vista has issues with sigmatel drivers (IDT's web site) and something about not routing audio right thru soundcards... ultimlatey, its a driver issue :(
