MADE is the home of new-age digital development, social media and marketing solutions. We cater to a range of premium local and international companies and brand houses.

We’re currently looking for a [mostly] front-end developer to join the production team and work with us in building unique, high quality and high performance applications and websites.

Where you studied, who you have worked for or how many references you have aren’t the most important things to us; at MADE we thrive on creative energy. We value unique people and personalities, and we are looking for an innovative, intelligent, passionate and self-motivated individual to join our team.

Above all, you should pride yourself on producing pixel perfect, award-winning work, and should be able to meet deadlines while maintaining your creative problem solving ability.

If you eat, sleep, live digital and think you have what it takes to be part of our team then we’d love to have a chat with you, so please see below for how to apply.

What we’re currently interested in/working on :

Mobile Apps - Websites are great, by they don’t yet integrate with our phones as much as native apps (that’s just a matter of time though, in our opinion). We can bring great value to people by giving them the right information or tool in their pockets and on demand (see our app, Loadshed: http://www.getloadshed.co.za/), but sometimes we need access to a phones features (or native performance) to do this. With hybrid libraries like Ionic and React Native readily available and under active development, the barriers to entry for creating these applications have been lowered hugely.

Rails & Ember - For those times when we need to build something bigger and more functional, or if SEO isn’t important, we look to those frameworks that we believe will make us happy. While our use of Rails and Ember have been minimal, we love the idea behind their architectures. We love programming, and anything that aims to make us enjoy it even more is definitely worth our attention.

Isomorphic Applications - We have a soft spot for Angular. When it first arrived it allowed us to do the usual repetitive things quickly and gave us a great platform for pushing boundaries with regards to website experiences. However, SEO is important to us and our clients and purely client-side frameworks don’t cater to that concern. We also put a lot of value on performance and don’t want our users having to wait around for a ton of javascript to compute things before they’re able to enjoy our creations.

For these reasons we’re investigating different technology stacks as options for our toolbox, and the idea of isomorphism seems to fit nicely. It isn’t a new idea, but there also aren’t any mature frameworks or easy options for this scenario. Maybe because it can add a lot of boilerplate, or maybe because some people just feel more comfortable with separating those concerns. Regardless, we’re excited by the idea of fast server-side rendering paired with great SEO and all the benefits of a full client-side framework. So far, React looks to be a strong contender for the UI and the idea behind Flux’s unidirectional data flow make it a tempting choice for the server responsibilities. We haven’t decided on anything yet though, and maybe we’ll never stick to one thing.

We love using new technologies and finding better ways to do things. We love the debate, the learning and the discovery. If you feel the same, come and join us in our mission!
