I've had this project on my mind for a while, neatening up this old stoep of our house
The roof is going to be painted grey soon, and the carport is grey as well for colour context

This is what it looks like now, it's a bit messy, mind the leaves and stuff please

I want to put a little wooden bench there where the stones are and maybe have it lift up for storing a few random garden thing (move the herbs of course), and then I'm thinking a slip resistant tile likely in grey/charcoal.

I don't quite know what to do about the brick though, from the entrance side would you chop that row of brick out and have tiles come down the face of that step?

And what about from inside the stop looking out through that gap, if I put a bench on top of those bricks then you'll see those bricks still (where the blue umbrella is lying on the floor). Would you leave that like that?

I'm all about the finer details, it's easy to slap tiles on the floor, and put a slab of wood on top for a bench.

Any ideas?

Maybe I should close up the gap with a window pane?

Which way does the wind blow from and which direction does the rain normally come from?

I put in a canvas curtain onto our stoep put a carpet down and got a gas heater and a dining table we use it quite a bit now

I would paint that pillar and few other pieces of non plastered bricks the same grey that you going to paint the roof.
The small wall where the door is can stay same color as house
The other small wall where chairs is I would paint so flashy color like and extreme green or dark shocking purple.
The you need to fill those two little walls with a few hanging ornaments or pictures. Oh and a nice pot with nice small tree or plant in it there where the spray bottle is standing next to the door.
That little flowerbed wall thingy with the pebbles I would plant a few plants, but it might take away you view if you sit there. Otherwise paint it with some sealant, with the rocks still in at that level and fill with water and put or two of these in.

Don't know. Struggle to look past the fake grass

You see that 37kg horse on my front lawn, she zooms daily, and when she does she's attempting to cause a new tectonic plate so that CPT can finally be rid of you lot and drift away

I don't know, I'm tempted to do that too between the carpenter ants chewing on my grass, crappy soil and weeds that want to spread everywhere. Also don't forget the neighbours stupid cat that poops in the sandy bits.

Depending on what's on the other side of your front door I'd almost be tempted to enclose the stoep and turn it into a entrance hallway and open up the front door somewhat.

I'm with Toxic.
Make that your entrance then build a pergola or gazebo to the right where whomever is trying to create a potted garden that's all over the place currently can make something nice and cozy with plants to chill.

Now that I'm actually sitting at a PC and not lounging on my couch I can respond with a bit more detail.

I'd look at enclosing that stoep, either just with glass or building up the one wall with a decent window in it, and put in a nice big pivot door as my front door. Then I'd look at bashing out the wall that currently has the front door in it and open that space of the house right up. Would fundamentally change the look of the house and with a bit of attention to detail could make it look quite a bit more modern.

Money depending of course, I'd possibly also look at some form of awning running down the front of the house where I'd put the new front door, just so you can get in and out of the house mostly dry :)

Remember if you permanently enclose that stoep you need to get Municipal Approval first. So don't do something structural that will give you issues when you sell the property. If it's in a complex... Well then there is the bodycorp you have to deal with or somewhere along the line someone is gonna start moaning.

Also, that's is stupid little useless stoep. :)

Make it bigger!

Oh absolutely no question, what I'm suggesting has considerably more hurdles to jump through to make "legal", but that would be for @SAguy to sort out :P but that place definitely doesn't look like its in a complex so he shouldn't have to worry about moaning myrtles from other units... he might have to deal with jealous neighbours when his house starts to look more epic than theirs though.

This is indeed the look I am going for

Closing the stoep and breaking out the front door wall isn't a bad idea at all.
Will be pricier but definitely worth it I reckon. It's already under a proper tiled roof which would make it fit in as a part of the actual house, instead of a stupid little stoep

Yeah and then you just hang an umbrella there for the rainy days while opening the front door.
