Frozen chips offer far greater speeds

I'm going to go right ahead and say O_o

500Ghz with the potential to reach 1000Ghz? That's an insane jump in processing power. Such a pity that it's unlikely to be available for us anytime soon (nothing official, I'm just guessing).
 
I read that silicon chips in the retail market were slowly reaching their theoretical limit of ard 5 - 8Ghz..

Now they say they are pushing them to 500Ghz and then 1Thz ?? So what exactly is the theoretical limit of these silicon based chips??
 
would be nice to have such a super fast pc....

What they fail to mention is how many instructions per second which is a far more accurate measurement of performance than the clock cycle. Remember when Intel experienced a massive jump in clock rate when changing from the P3 to the P4, that was because they reduced the number of instructions per cycle.

In other words the number of instructions per cycle is more important than the clock cycle?

Is there a specific formula to work this out based on the clock cycle, or is this something pre-defined by manufacturer?:confused:
