FSB Website hacked

I checked the local chapter website of the Russian Secret Service and found no signs of the hack. Mind you I didn't know they operated this openly, with a domain like fsb.co.za and all..... oh well.

Ouch - that is a scary thought considering the confidential information that they have!!!

I am sure they just defaced the web site, not the actual server itself. (let's hope)

I am no IT whiz, however my understanding is that in order for them to have defaced the website, they would have needed to get access to the website's server in the first place? And if they can do that, then with a little more effort or inclination, they might have been able to access the servers where the actual data is stored. Correct me if I am wrong here, but I still see this as a major security issue that needs addressing ASAP and some form of public communication sent to the financial market to put their minds at ease...

If they used something like a SQL infection they could change/insert code on the backend without gaining access to the website.

do they host the website on their server?
