Hi guys

Hacking is used very loosely in this post. Cracking is the bad type of hacking. The type of computer system accesss where you do not tell anybody about it. Hacking on the other hand is an effort of will and genius. If you are successful you tell the system owner of their weakness and move on to bigger things...

<br />Donn is correct ............ but I think it is 30 modems not 300.

Sentech has been hacked, they are owned by local group that is raping the bandwidth. Not at 512 levels, but closer to the 3MB limit of the unit and prioritising bandwidth on the network.

Sentech is hosting some local hackers MP3 wet dream ! [:D]

There is mail circulating ...... [;)]

Yup ... WE all know cracker rather than hacker is the correct term for a black hat.

Problem is journos struggle like hell to grasp even basic technical issues.

Take the latest ITweb article. Yes they conveyed the main message quite well "Sentech is leaving its backdoor wide open which allows black hats to help themselves to unlimited bandwdith" but they failed dismally to explain the technicalities correctly.

Just to Kai, you agreed to the AUP in the contract. Something I wrote a big warning about on this site and to the ISP noticeboard. Yet everyone goes "but they will never do that to us, WILL THEY?" and shrug it off like a joke.

Karnaugh, I never intialed anything regarding an AUP, they didn't even include it in the original contract, only thing stating is that I agree to it, giving me somewhat of a loophole, claiming the "what AUP? I signed the contract for a fast connection, no one (no not me) told me about an AUP?"

and claim ignorance.... the classic "huh?" defense

Is my usage capped on my MyWireless account?
You’re throughput rate is defined by the package you purchase. Sentech does however not limit the amount of data via your connection and does not vary the quality of service according to the amount of data transferred. Thus the maximum amount of data transferable is defined by the speed of your chosen package, not a usage cap.

Let them try and cut me off.

Karnaugh, nowhere in the AUP does it state that you are limited to the amount of data that you can download - it states a few things deemed as network abuse, but it doesn't say ANYTHING about the amount of bw to be used....

I miss your point...

It does Kai. basicly translated "Whatever we decide is bandwidth abuse" - The sole and only reason that I will never purchase Sentech unless the contract is removed.

*shrug* - well. I guess they could take that stance. Their choice if they want to loose all of their customers...

I don't think it will hold up in a court of law...abuse is not defined and subject to interpretation. Nowhere have I seen and little *Subject to terms and conditions when they advertise unlimited usage.

I have been downloading SUSE 9.1 all day so can I expect an abuse warning soon? That is what I do with my connection and the exact reason why I didn't go DSL (should have though) because downloading Fedora would have meant my 3 GB cap was spent for the month. I think they won't be able to hold existing customers to that. In any case, allthough I am in IT, "Acceptable Use Policy" in my understanding refers to security issues such as attacks, ddos and porn - and in most cases is to protect the network infrastructure.

I say we all donate to a legal fund.

Sentech can provide a local FTP server where we can share all our porn - that way we can save international bandwidth :-)

buffalobill ... I've got a bunch of logs as well from portscans. My reference files on my firewall refered me to a few sites with info on the Land and Teardrop issues...
Send me a mail and lets compare.
