FTA channels on IS20

Ok... so I found Gran's old DSTV decoder (Dsd 1110 +2) in the back of a cupboard. It's tunable.... and I'd like to try my hand at getting the FTA channels on the IS20 sat (we have OVHD and I can connect the DSTV decoder to the LNB out from the OVHD box), but:

1) will FTA channels work without any DSTV subscription? and
2) whats the trick to get it to work?

I tried putting in the frequencies but kept getting an error code - something about the smartcard?

Back in the day you had to pay to receive the free channels somewhere around R20. I dont know if its still applicable

You will have to find out from multichoice

Yes FTA will work without any DSTV subscription on a multichoice decoder, however OVHD doesn't like FTA, once you connect via OVHD you'll lose FTA.
