FTP Problem

I have an issue that i can't get into the ftp servers with my desktop, but with the laptop through wifi i can. I tried with the firewall disabled, still nothing. It basically connects but times out.

I have tried 3 different programs:

CuteFTP
Filezilla
SmartFTP

What else can i try to get this working?

Anti-virus? I've had BitDefender block my FTP access before (back when I still used BitDefender )

Nope, I'm also using AVG... Is the laptop also using AVG + Windows Firewall?

The desktop has Vista Ultimate and the laptop is a company laptop with xp and it looks like only the default xp firewall

Normal web browsing and networking is working fine, though?

everything works, that is what is strange..i can just not connect to ftp web servers
