Something is happening in Camps Bay

The attached pictures were taken yesterday in Francolin & Theresa Avenues at the top of Camps Bay.
Also saw one of those little street boxes in Hely Hutchinson Ave, that one was apparently installed about a month ago.

When I asked the guys digging who they worked for they said “Ben & Dirk” (obviously subcontractors) and said it was “fibre optic” for DSTV, but not sure they really knew who it was for.

Said they were connecting all the houses in that area, although I did not see any evidence of actual direct connections to houses.

The area is in the part of Camps Bay that Telkom claims to be rolling out FTTH.

Their install are normally a bit more over engineered / "Mil Spec".

Ah, one of those bizarre space distortions known to happen around Camps Bay that results in the world turning 90° perpendicular to the camera.

I have been in contact with someone who has high level contacts in Telkom.

Seems the current purple zone is phase 1 for Camps Bay.

Seems other parts will be covered as part of future phase/s. But no confirmations on timing or anything else as yet.

That current purple zone probably is not 100% accurate anyway, guess time will tell.

Their is always the Vumatel option for Camps Bay

my mother has a house in theresa, must find out a little more.

Balls. I see Telkom updated their rollout map and I'm no longer in the potential FTTH rollout plan. What's more, 8 streets over is getting VDSL within the next 3-6 months. Much sad.

Towards Pretoria North. There's development all around me now though, so I suspect that I'll be getting upgraded to VDSL within the next year or so.

Eh? Gigabit ethernet supports 100m length runs and I've heard of it being squeezed a fair amount past that point.

Thankfully when entering our phone number the site says we're included, so there is still hope.

Yes that's the point, once you approach 100m you'll start squeezing in and who knows maybe it's actually 120m away. But as he pointed out he is covered fortunately after using the number check so he is sorted
